Kari Lehtonen did just that yesterday in his first game in over a month. I’ll give him credit though, 3 Goals won’t hurt your team too bad and like I just said, it was his first game in a month. I warned you all in the preseason about the likelyhood of missed time for this guy with a girls name, HOWEVA, I’m still bullish. If he can keep up what he/she was doing for the year-and-a-half prior to the injury (2.44GAA/.917SV%) you’ve got a stud #2 or a borderline #1.
Please, blog, may I have some more?Monthly Archives: December 2011
In Alexander Semin‘s first 27 games of the season, he had 5 Goals. Now all of a sudden, he’s got 4 Goals in his last 5 games (including 2 last night).
Please, blog, may I have some more?Evander Kane is showing everyone that he is a M-A-N at the ripe age of 20. 2 Goals last night put him just 2 short of last season’s total of 19. I’d say the odds are pretty good that he will top that but the real question is how many can he score? He’s on pace for about 38-39 which just seems a little high to me (he’s too streaky – before last night he was in the midst of a 7 game Goal-less drought). If I were setting the over/under right now I’d probably put it at 34. That’s good. Now consider the fact that you probably drafted him in the 10th Round or later. That’s damn good. You know what else is damn good? Beef Jerky…
Ilya Kovalchuk – I’ve always been fascinated by players (in any sport) who score on their own team. I would imagine it’s similar to ripping a loud fart in a company meeting. Everybody is annoyed at you but nobody says anything. What can you say? In the end it probably didn’t matter too much, odds are New Jersey would have lost anyway. Still, it’s always entertaining to see someone ice the game for the opponent…
Henrik Lundqvist – G (NYR): Ho hum another Shutout for King Henrik on Monday. His season line is ree-freaking-diculous: 15W/1.95GAA/.936SV%/3SO.. Every year the King is drafted incredibly high and every year he produces at an elite level. Players like him are responsible for keeping order in the universe.
Please, blog, may I have some more? Before I get to the post I have to give a shout out to Vin Reich (or VinRazz) for these posts. Go check out his site at: http://therclblog.wordpress.com/2011/12/26/week-11/ if you want all the info you can handle regarding RCL Leagues… Now lets get it on!
Please, blog, may I have some more?It always fascinates me when a player and a Head Coach get into an altercation (verbal or otherwise). When I try and parallel the situation with my own job it just doesn’t make any sense. First off, the Head Coach is the equivalent to my boss in upper management and if I cursed him out in front of all the other employees, I would no longer be employed. But then I realize that in most cases in the NHL, the player is actually making more money (usually substantially more) than the guy who is his “boss”. It’s all very confusing and it’s best to just remember professional sports is in no way equivalent to the real world. Anyway in case you missed it, Ott got into it with Head Coach Peter Laviolette last week but because Dallas won the game, nothing came of it. Ott was right back out there Friday night. It might have lit a fire under his hiney too – he finished the game with a +2 and 2 Points…
Mikael Backlund – C (Cgy): I’ve never been so quick to dismiss a former 1st Round draft pick. But facts are facts and you ARE the weakest link!
Please, blog, may I have some more?NO… It’s been a tricky season for the bleach-blonde former philly philanderer. I think that’s how you spell philanderer. Anyway Hat Tricks always get my attention so Jeff Carter gets top billing tonight despite his less than stellar season thus far. I don’t think this game means he’s back, but it certainly doesn’t hurt. I (and most other analysts) knew the move to Colombus would not be a good thing, but before tonight JC wasn’t even living up to his reduced expectations. And IMO, even after this game, Carter doesn’t come close to the value he had in Philly. If this game can convince someone he’s back, use it to upgrade other parts of your roster because Carter’s headed for his worst season since 2007. Now lets take a gander at the rest of the NHL…
Jonathan Bernier – G (LA): I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest that new Coach Darryl Suter forcefully grabbed Bernier after last night’s game because he will start tonight versus San Jose. I think Bernier’s stock has fallen considerably since the start of last season and I don’t know why the Kings don’t trade him to upgrade their offense. Quick IS a franchise Goalie and it’s time to quit jerking Bernier around…
Niklas Hagman – LW (Ana): After 2 points last night Hag-man is on fire with 4 Goals and 3 Assists in the Ducks last 6 games.. It won’t last and if you pick him up I will lose a considerable amount of respect for you. That’s really all I have to say about that…
Mike Richards – C (LA): Hey hey first game in 3 weeks and a Goal doth cometh. I just traded for Richards in a league so if that doesn’t tell you how I feel about him I don’t know what will…
Phil Kessel – RW (Tor): Had a ridiculous 10 Shots yesterday, one of which got past the Goalie. Phil the pill has slowed down lately though. Prior to last night, Kessel only had 3 Goals in 12 games.
Please, blog, may I have some more?Congratulations to all Claude Giroux owners out there (and I’m not talking about his 4 points yesterday). I’m talking about the fact that he returned from a concussion after missing just 10 days. Now maybe it’s because he’s never been concussed before (which I find hard to believe), but more than likely he’s just one of those players who doesn’t have long lasting side effects after being concussed. (Well either that or they’re able to lie convincingly to team trainers). Regardless of how they are able to do it, certain players can brush concussions off like they’re nothing more than a bad flu. And the early returns say Jean-Claude is that type of player – and it makes me love him that much more…
Alexander Semin – LW/RW (Wsh): My love for this guy is hanging on by a thread, and I’m not even sure why there is still a thread to be honest. But after Tuesday’s Goal he’s got one in 2 straight and has looked alot better. That Goal against Nashville was an absolute lazer from the boards (just inside the faceoff circle) that went high glove side and was essentially unblockable. Only a handful of players in the NHL can make that shot.
Please, blog, may I have some more? Not that I think Jonas Hiller is over the hill, but come on using his name in a title about how much he sucks kinds of lends itself to it. I’ve had a hard time diagnosing exactly what’s been wrong with Hiller. The Ducks roster hardly changed at all from last year and yet nothing is the same in Anaheim. It’s easy to say he has never fully recovered from last year’s bout with Vertigo, but even considering that he shouldn’t be this bad. I’ve lost all faith in Hiller Time and it’s gonna take alot to get it back. I’m talking like diamond earrings type groveling… A dinner and a movie ain’t gonna cut it.
Please, blog, may I have some more?Zak Dream Team (RCL 1) was the team of the week, scoring a perfect 22 points. KyHabs (The CHeap Seats) was right behind, notching 21 points. Here are the leaders in each category for the week, with the average in brackets:
Goals (9): 21 TheMustaches (Bobby Hull Division), Toronto Make Beliefs (RCL 1)
Assists (16): 28 TheMustaches (Bobby Hull Division)
+/- (+5): +24 Jethro (The CHeap Seats)
PIM (19): 41 Wampa (RazzPuckBunnies)
PPP (7): 15 GoPuckYour….
The concussion monster dealt a death blow to Chris Pronger yesterday. Kinda wierd they would IR him for the season considering Philly could be playing for another 6+ months. The rumor is Pronger triggered a new CBA rule where once you go over 200 career concussions, you can’t play again that season. I for one am bummed cuz I own him on a team and he was actually having a good year (in the handful of games he played). If you own him like I do, Matt Carle is the obvious replacement (3 Assists yesterday). Go pick him up if he’s still available… As far as the rest of the Flyer’s go, it should help Timonen somewhat and it might make Andrej Meszaros fantasy relevant. Even in deeper leagues my brother from another mother, Braydon Coburn, is worth a look… In closing I would like to say (in all seriousness) that November 19th against Winnipeg might have been Chris Pronger’s last game ever. (Meaning keeper league owners you can drop him too).
