There’s not much that a slam dunk Hall of Famer can do to surprise you, but with how poorly the last two seasons have gone for Steven Stamkos, last night qualified. Stammer scored four goals by the end of the second period on Thursday, finishing with nine shots on goal in the 7-2 win over the Blues. Look, it couldn’t be going worse in Smashville overall. That said, he’s getting some trade buzz, and a game like yesterday is going to do wonders for the chances of someone taking on his contract. He did have six points (4+2) in the seven games before Thursday, so it didn’t come completely out of the blue. For now, he’s in elite streamer range while he’s hot. Let’s take a look at what else happened on Thursday night:
Michael Amadio – Goal and two assists with three shots. Amadio has these big games more than most players of his ilk, but he’s only a bottom end streamer in 12’ers.
Drake Batherson – Goal and two assists with two shots. Batherson is playing his best hockey in years so far. Part of that is shooting percentage aided, but part of it is just him playing well.
Dylan Cozens – Three assists with three shots. The Sens are still getting caved with Cozens on the ice, but the points are decent. Great in hits now too. Solid to elite streamer.
Tim Stutzle – Two goals on four shots. He’s slowed down a bit lately, but Stutzle is still close to a 40+40 pace.
Boone Jenner – Goal and an assist with two shots. Great return to the lineup for Jenner. Solid streamer for now, with upside.
Zach Werenski – Two assists with two shots. The level Werenski has reached the last two seasons is nothing short of remarkable, playing his way into being a slam dunk top 5 defenseman in real life and fantasy.
Nikolaj Ehlers – Goal and an assist with six shots. It hasn’t been as great as I hoped, but Ehlers is still a bottom end hold for me. It gets iffy in banger leagues though.
Logan Stankoven – Goal and an assist with four shots. Middling streamer.
Alex Wennberg – Goal and two assists with three shots. Solid in deep leagues with all of the categories, but low utility in 12’ers or less.
John Klingberg – Goal and an assist with two PIM. Klingberg is firmly on the fringe right now.
William Nylander – Two assists with three shots. Nylander shockingly had no points in his previous four games, so it was nice to see him get back on track.
Mark Stone – Two goals on five shots, with Jack Eichel having two assists. It really is just a matter of health for Stone.
Christian Dvorak – Two assists. His career looked completely cooked in Montreal, so it’s nice to see Dvorak back and playing well. He’s into solid streamer range.
Troy Terry – Goal and an assist with two shots. Terry is still chugging along sitting right above a point per game.
Anders Lee – Two goals and two assists. Lee has struggled on the whole this season, but he’s been better lately. I’m bumping him up into solid streamer range for the time being.
Simon Holmstrom – Goal and two assists with two shots. Bottom end streamer.
Tony DeAngelo – Two assists with a shot. Thought we’d get more from TDA this year, but Schaefer taking the team over killed that. I wouldn’t hold him in 12’ers, but I would in anything deeper.
Nikita Kucherov – Four assists with four shots. I feel like I haven’t Kucherov talked about at all this season, yet here we are with another 40 points in 28 games.
Darren Raddysh – Goal and an assist. With Victor Hedman out again, and potentially long term with the same injury, Raddysh is, conservatively, a top 20 defenseman the rest of the way. He could be top 10.
Jake Guentzel – Goal and two assists with two shots. Guentzel is about as consistent as they come.
Oliver Bjorkstrand – Two goals and an assist with three shots. Bjorkstrand had two power play points in this one. He hasn’t provided nearly enough, but he can get bumped into middling streamer range.
Paul Cotter – Goal and an assist with three shots. Call him lower end Amadio, although the hits from Cotter are nice.
Simon Nemec – Two assists with three shots and two PIM. It’s bottom end, but Nemec is probably doing enough to be held everywhere.
Luke Hughes – Goal and an assist. Same boat as Nemec, although I do prefer Hughes.
Juraj Slafkovsky – Two assists. He does have eight points in his last eight games, but I still haven’t changed my overall feelings on Slafkovsky. Never been a big fan, and he’s stuck in middling to solid streamer range.
Lane Hutson – Two assists with two shots. I think Montreal fans expected a bit from Hutson this season, but he’s still been quite good. Solid #2 in 12’ers.
Bryan Rust – Goal and an assist with five shots. Rust is firmly on the fringe, with a slight lean towards holding.
Miro Heiskanen – Goal and an assist with two shots. Heiskanen’s resurgence has been great to see. If not for what Makar is doing, Heiskanen might be the Norris favorite.
Matt Boldy – Goal and two assists with five shots. Boldy continues to absolutely crush across the board.
Marcus Johansson – Two goals. Johansson has already matched his goal total from each of the previous two seasons, and the assists are much improved as well. He’s into solid streamer territory despite the poor shot rate.
Joel Eriksson Ek – Goal and an assist with five shots. He’s playing the most difficult minutes in the league, which makes it hard to produce offensively. I’m still holding because of the shot rate, but it is fringy.
David Pastrnak – Two goals and two assists with seven shots. Morgan Geekie dished three assists, while Elias Lindholm had a goal and an assist. Lindholm is getting interesting, with ten assists plus this goal in his last seven games. He bumps up to an elite streamer while he’s a hot schmotato.
Philip Broberg – Two assists with three shots. He has not been able to replicate last season’s success. I’d only use him in super deep leagues for blocks.
Luke Evangelista – Three assists with three shots. He’s turned into a pretty good playmaker. Evangelista is an elite streamer for assists. AAGNOF!
Matthew Wood – Two assists. I’m starting to become pretty bullish on Wood’s long term outlook. For now, he’s a middling streamer.
Zach Hyman – Hat trick on seven shots. Connor McDavid dished four assists in this game, while Leon Draisaitl had two. It hasn’t been the best start for Hyman upon return from injury, but he’s still worth holding without hesitation.
Tristan Jarry – Traded to Edmonton for Stuart Skinner, with some minor pieces included. Edmonton gave up a second round pick to basically get Eastern Conference Skinner. Insert Spider-Man meme here. Maybe Jarry catches fire there, and it certainly gives him a bump going to a better team, but I still think Jarry is bad. Yay goalies!
Tage Thompson – Goal and an assist with five shots. Rasmus Dahlin also had a goal and an assist. In a tough spot with a lot of players out and in their third game in four nights, their two superstars won them a road game. I think we see a goal scoring run for Dahlin sooner than later, although the assists are coming in at a career high pace.
Nathan MacKinnon – Goal and an assist with seven shots. I know that the Panthers are missing guys, but the Avs absolutely dog walked them in this one. MacKinnon’s stat line is just absurd. +37 in 31 games with 25+28 and almost five shots per game. Sure.
Sam Malinski – Goal and an assist with three shots. Malinski has played his way onto the fringe in 12’ers. If your leagues includes blocks, he’s doing enough scoring to be held.
That’s all for now guys. As always, feel free to ask any questions, leave any comments, or give any suggestions below. Thanks for reading, take care!
