The Utah Mammoth have been struggling lately, with four consecutive losses and only two wins in their last ten. They snapped that streak in a big way on Wednesday, winning 7-0 in Anaheim. Leading the charge for Utah was J.J. Peterka, their big offeseason acquisition. Peterka scored two goals and two assists with six shots. It hasn’t been the best start in Utah for Peterka, who was down on the third line for a couple weeks recently. Besides the obvious of it being a big game, this was notable for Peterka for a couple reasons. One, he was on the first line with Keller and Schmaltz. That’s always a help. The other big boost is that Peterka was on the first power play unit. One of his goals came with the top unit. The Utah power play has been atrocious for the last few weeks, so it wouldn’t surprise me if Peterka gets an extended look there. The goals have been there, but that’s because of a high shooting percentage. The assists have also dried up significantly compared to where they were in Buffalo. My hope is this boost in role can cancel out the inevitable shooting regression, which can get Peterka back into clear hold territory. For now, Peterka belongs on the fringe, although I lean towards bottom end hold for the upside. Let’s take a look at what else happened over the last two nights:
Jake Oettinger – 30 save shutout in the 3-0 win over the Devils. His numbers are right in line with last season, which is a bit of a disappointment. Even at this level, Oettinger is a bottom end #1 for the elite wins.
Esa Lindell – Two assists with a shot. Lindell is getting massive minutes with Harley out. It puts Lindell on the fringe of 12’ers, although I lean towards leaving him on the wire unless you need blocks.
Jamie Benn – Two assists with two PIM. With Tyler Seguin more than likely out for the season, Benn moved onto a line with Robertson and Hintz. That puts him into elite streamer range.
Travis Sanheim – Two assists with two shtos and two PIM. He’s on the fringe with a lean towards the outside looking in.
Travis Konecny – Goal and an assist with two shots. Konecny’s dropoff comes directly from the drop in shot rate. He’s a hold regardless, but his upside is capped barring a change.
Noah Cates – Goal and an assist with five shots. Middling streamer.
Bobby Brink – Goal and an assist with three shots. Bottom end streamer.
Matvei Michkov – Two assists with two shots and four PIM. It’s a nice stretch for Michkov, who has six points in his last five games. Frequent readers know I’m a huge believer, so hopefully I get rewarded from my stubbornness.
Mark Scheifele – Goal and an assist, as did Kyle Connor. The Jets depth is really ugly right now, as they’re depending heavily on their first line. Luckily for the team, both are playing at a superstar level.
Clayton Keller – Goal and two assists with three shots. Keller is due for a bit of positive shooting regression, as he’s sitting at exactly three shots per game. I doubt you can buy semi-low, but I would.
Ian Cole – Goal and an assist with two shots and two PIM, +5. Somehow, Cole has stumbled into 11 points in 28 games. He has real value in super deep leagues.
Nick Schmaltz – Two assists with a shot. Schmaltz is right on the fringe now. The last two weeks, he didn’t have a point in eight games. I’m probably passing for now with the loss of PP1 to Peterka.
Jack McBain – Two assists with two shots. Massive hits and other non-points contributions, but the points are ugly.
Dylan Guenther – Goal and an assist with five shots. It hasn’t been quite as good as I hoped, but Guenther is at 3.5 shots per game, an elite number. There’s hope for a big time heater.
Karel Vejmelka – 27 save shutout in the 7-0 win over the Ducks. If Vejmelka was playing halfway decent, his numbers would be incredible. Instead, he has a .889 sv%. He’s still worth holding for wins and a GAA that isn’t awful, but it’s his own play that will be the difference, not the team in front of him.
Charlie Lindgren – 23 saves on 24 shots in the 7-1 win over the Sharks. Lindgren is an okay streamer in good matchups, but he’s proven to be a mediocre backup.
Ryan Leonard – Two goals and two assists with six shots. Leonard is really starting to come into his own. He’s an elite streamer with the potential to turn into a hold.
Alex Ovechkin – Two goals on four shots. Insane heater for Ovechkin, who has nine goals in his last ten games. Love to see it.
Matt Roy – Three assists with two shots. Okay deep league value, but that’s it.
Trevor van Riemsdyk – Two assists with two shots. TVR is an offensive black hole. And there’s your annual TVR update!
Brandon Duhaime – Goal and an assist with two shots. He’s a fine fourth liner, but that doesn’t give Duhaime any fantasy value.
Juuse Saros – 30 saves on 31 shots in the 2-1 OT win over the Panthers. There are good games regularly, but the problem is that the bad games are just as frequent for Saros now. He’s on the fringe.
Ryan O’Reilly – Goal and an assist with four shots. After a rough start, RoR has eight points in the last five games. Even with that, he’s only in middling to solid streamer range.
Evgeni Malkin – Two goals and an assist with three shots and two PIM. They’re keeping the minutes down for Malkin, but he’s still sitting over a point per game. It’s not exciting, especially in banger leagues, but you can’t pass on a point per game.
Tommy Novak – Two assists. Bottom end streamer.
Nikita Kucherov – Goal and an assist with ten shots. He played an absurd 25:28 in this game. He hasn’t been quite to his standards, but Kucherov is still playing at a top 10 level.
Darren Raddysh – Two assists with two shots and two PIM. Raddysh is a clear hold everywhere right now. He has eight points in his last four games, and 14 in his last ten.
Brandon Hagel – Two goals on seven shots. Hagel is as good as it gets at even strength. He’s beyond on fire with ten goals in his last seven games.
J.T. Miller – Three assists with a shot and two PIM. Miller has been one of the biggest disappointments in the league. For now, he’s on the fringe because of the upside.
Artemi Panarin – Goal and an assist with two shots. Panarin is on a roll right now with ten points in his last five games. The shooting percentage is down quite a bit, so there’s some hope for a goal scoring binge.
Drake Batherson – Goal and an assist with four shots. Jake Sanderson dished two assists. Both of them have been great, helping keep Ottawa afloat to this point. The bad news is Shane Pinto went down with what looked to be a serious injury.
Martin Necas – Goal and an assist with three shots and two PIM. Even in an ultra rare defeat, Necas managed to get two points. He’s been a top ten forward basically from opening night on.
Mat Barzal – Goal and two assists with four shots and two PIM. Barzal is on the fringe right now with a slight lean towards holding him.
Anders Lee – Goal and an assist with four shots. Middling streamer.
Bo Horvat – Goal and an assist with six shots. Call it a hot take, but I think there’s a real chance Horvat makes Team Canada for the Olympics as a fourth liner. He just fits the mold of the player type they like. For fantasy, he’s been incredible so far, shockingly playing as a top 10 forward.
Ryan Pulock – Two assists wiwth two shots. Pretty underwhelming overall, but the assists are good for deep leagues.
Joseph Woll – 22 saves on 23 shots in two periods before leaving the game injured. With Stolarz also out, it’s Dennis Hildeby‘s net for the time being. If you need short term help, Hildeby is the guy to roll the dice on. Welcome to the Razzball Database Hildeby!
Bobby McMann – Two goals on three shots. The third line was good with Nic Roy also getting two points (both assists). McMann has two points in each of the last three games, but he’s still only in middling streamer range.
Max Domi – Two assists with a shot. Domi has five assists in the past three games, as he’s moved onto the first line with Matthews and Matthew Knies (1+1, 3 SOG). Even with the bump, Domi is only a middling streamer.
Morgan Geekie – Goal and two assists with three shots. Even with Pasta being out, Geekie hasn’t slowed down one bit. And more importantly, MarmosDad becomes the first person to get a correct pick in the Three Point Challenge! Nicely done.
Elias Lindholm – Three assists with two PIM. The assists are very good, so how much you need Lindholm comes down to team needs.
Viktor Arvidsson – Goal and an assist with two shots. The shots are great, but the points are mediocre. That leaves him in middling streamer range.
Pavel Zacha – Two goals on three shots. The only thing keeping Zacha from the fringe is a poor shot rate. He’s a solid streamer because of it.
Alex Steeves – Goal and an assist with two shots. Steeves looks to be extremely lucky in the shooting department. He is putting up insane hit totals, so he’s come onto the streaming radar for now.
Mason Lohrei – Two assists with a shot. He’s not even close to a shot per game. Nothing we can do with that.
Patrick Kane – Goal and an assist with four shots. Kane has done enough lately to become a clear hold.
Andrew Copp – Two assists with three shots. Copp moved onto a line with Kane and DeBrincat with Kasper’s struggles. Even with that, it’s hard to get Copp past a bottom end streamer level.
Moritz Seider – Two assists with a shot and two PIM. We’re starting to see a bit more offense from Seider. Whether he can sustain it and finally get past the 45 point range is to be seen.
Lucas Raymond – Goal and an assist. Seven game point streak for Raymond, who has a great chance of beating last season’s 80 points and getting above a point per game.
Sean Monahan – Three assists. After a very ugly start, Monahan has six points in his last three games. I’m not rushing to grab him, but that puts him into solid to elite streaming territory.
Zach Werenski – Three assists with two shots. Can’t stop, won’t stop!
Adam Fantilli – Two goals on three shots. Fantilli played over 22 minutes in this game, as Columbus looks to be turning the keys over to Fantilli as their offensive focal point. I’m all the way in long term and for the rest of this season, I fully expect him to sustain being a hold.
Kaapo Kakko – Two assists with a shot. Kakko finished last season very well in Seattle, but he’s been out with injury most of this season. For now, he’s just worth monitoring outside of deep leagues.
Connor McDavid – Hat trick and an assist with seven shots. Leon Draisaitl had a goal and three assists, while Evan Bouchard and Ryan Nugent-Hopkns each dished three assists. Safe to say that Seattle has no chance against superstars most nights. Edmonton is going to need these performances more frequently to get out of this hole.
Mattias Ekholm – Two assists. Ekholm’s numbers are decent enough across the board to be a bottom end hold.
Adam Henrique – Two assists with two shots and two PIM. He’s back down in the bottom six, so I don’t have interest in Henrique in 12’ers.
Matt Savoie – Two goals on four shots. Savoie has been getting an extensive look in the top six, but the results have been ugly for the most part. He did click with Draisaitl a bit today, so it’s worth monitoring.
Dustin Wolf – 26 saves on 27 shots in the 4-1 win over the Wild. Still like Wolf plenty in dynasties, but he’s a big risk for the rest of this season because of the team in front of him.
Rasmus Andersson – Goal and an assist with six shots. Huge run from Andersson lately. A trade to the right team could do him wonders. For now, he’s still a clear hold, although I do think he’ll slow down a bit.
Matt Coronato – Goal and an assist. Great shot rate, but that’s it right now. That keeps him as a middling streamer.
Spencer Knight – 26 saves on 27 shots in the 2-1 win over the Kings. Knight has fallen off a bit lately, but his overall numbers put him on the fringe of the Vezina discussion. For dynasties, he’s a clear top five goalie. For the rest of the season, he’s more bottom end #1 or elite #2. I’m still worried about the team in front of him staying poor defensively and Knight falling off a bit. He hasn’t played more than 27 games in a season since before COVID.
Frank Nazar – Two assists with two shots. Nazar remains on the fringe depending on team needs.
