Happy MONDAY, Razzball faithful!

Let’s start this one out with one of Friday night’s goalies.

Clay Stevenson – 34 saves on 37 shots in a 3-2 loss to Carolina…Ah, who am I kidding? With all due respect (and with apologies to Grandma Stevenson), no one wants to read a Clay Stevenson update.

It’s true. There’s no need to add your name to the Razzball database just yet, Clay.

But, why not?

Well, first off, Winnipeg fans must love this photo.

Oh wait. Wrong picture.

Adam Lowry was quoted as saying, “If he does show up, there’s gonna have to be conversations.”

I’ll guess those conversations won’t center on whether the Jets need to improve after sitting 14th overall in the league standings, or whether they’re named after the New York Jets.

Surely you’ve seen the chatter online.

The LA Kings are in the mix (according to Frank Seravalli).

And the Buffalo Sabres are still churning that rumor mill too.

Most recently, three-way trade rumors are in the mix, with Buffalo sending UPL to the Rangers and jettisoning Ryan McLeod, Jiri Kulich, Radim Mrtka, and a 2nd-round pick to bring back Hellebuyck and another forward (Nino Niederreiter)?

All I know for sure is that I’m comfortable betting we’ll see Dustin Byfuglien suit up for active duty in a Jets uniform again before we see Connor Hellebuyck wear the silver Avro Arrow.

But let’s get to the guys who actually played over the last three days!

Here’s what else I saw in NHL action this weekend…

FRIDAY’S GAMES

Michael DiPietro – 26 saves on 28 shots for his FIRST NHL win! (?). If you’re thinking Hey, hasn’t this guy been around for 8 years now?” Well, you’re not wrong. He debuted with the Canucks in 2018-2019 and had just five NHL starts until this one. Congrats!

David Pastrnak – One goal, one assist, four shots, and one block. Pasta on keeps cooking.

Elias Lindholm – One goal, one assist, one shot. Lindholm keeps on…uh…linding? Nah.

James Hagens – Two assists, two shots, two blocks. I mention below how much I wouldn’t be surprised if Hagens makes the short list for the Calder trophy, but he’ll need to get the time on the ice. He was just over 10 minutes Friday night.

Lukas Dostal – 18 saves on 22 shots in the 4-2 loss vs BOS. Things looked good to start with Anaheim jumping out to a 2-0 lead after the first period, but Dostal went postal in the third and gave up three unanswered goals.

Beckett Sennecke – One goal on one shot in 23:12 of ice time. He led all Duck forwards in ice time.

Mackenzie Blackwood – 30 saves on 32 shots and the 5-2 win vs PIT. Between Blackwood’s six starts and Wedgewood’s two, Colorado also has the monopoly on timber-themed goalie wins. (RIP to my buddy, the OG of Trees, Mark LaForest, too).

Nathan MacKinnon – One goal, three assists, nine shots, and one block. The sheer volume of shots on goal is ridiculous. I still wouldn’t draft him ahead of McDavid, but that’s the only one.

Martin Necas -Three assists, one shot, one hit. Ten points in eight games.

Artturi Lehkonen – Two goals on three shots. Riding shotgun for MacKinnon and Necas is a dream for anyone, but Lehkonen is proving that he has the talent to stick there (6 goals in 8 games).

Cale Makar – Two assists, two shots, two blocked shots. He’s even pitching in with PIMs this year too (17).

Arturs Silovs – 27 saves on 32 shots in the 5-2 loss at COL. It’s a rough assignment for anyone when they have to head into the Ball Arena, so let’s give Silovs a pass here.

Sidney Crosby – One assist, two shots, one hit, in 19:36 of ice time. Oh, look! It’s another milestone for Sid, the not-so-much-a-kid-anymore!

Erik Karlsson – One assist, two shots, and 20:57 time on the ice. The rumor mill is churning, and teams looking for a right-shot defenseman are calling.

SATURDAY’S GAMES

Jake Allen – 21 saves on 24 shots and the 4-2 loss at WSH. He’s started five games to Nico Daws’ three, so at the very least he’s in a time share.

Arseny Gritsyuk – One goal, one assist, six shots, and one hit. We’ll save the “Somebody call the fire department, there’s an arseny-st in the building!” for another day’s lede.

Logan Thompson – 29 saves on 31 shots and his 4th win. If you didn’t draft him, you’re gonna have fomo for Lo-Tho.

Ilya Protas – One goal on three shots with one hit.

Vincent Desharnais – Two assists and one blocked shot? What? Didn’t he register a single shot in 20:23 of ice time? (That’s a negative, chief).

Pyotr Kochetkov – 21 saves on 23 shots in the 3-2 win at WPG. Outside of the Colorado duo, I’d be hard-pressed to name a better young goaltending tandem than the one that Carolina has.

Shayne Gostisbehere – Two assists, three shots, one hit. Only one more week until the real “Ghost is be here” night, too! (Aka the grammatically-challenged Halloween quote).

Mark Scheifele – One goal, three shots, one hit, one block. Outside of an assist and a few hits from Adam Lowry, this was all the excitement the Jets could muster.

Kevin Lankinen – 31 saves on 35 shots and the 4-2 loss at TB. This was his 6th loss in 7 GS. In other news, Thatcher Demko “might” be back by Christmas.

Elias Pettersson – One goal on two shots and one hit. It’s tough sledding in the Rocky Mountains.

Dennis Hildeby – 12 saves on 14 shots and the win. It’s only been two starts, but this guy should put up some solid numbers as a backup on a really strong team this year.

Nikita Kucherov – Two goals, seven shots, and two PIMs. It would be tough to pick a winner if there was an award for the most shots in the league each year, but I’d be comfortable putting this guy, MacKinnon, and Jason Robertson on the list of finalists.

Jake Guentzel – One goal, one assist, two shots, and two hits. That’s nine points in eight games, and he’s well on his way to a third 80+ point campaign.

Brayden Point – Two assists and two PIMs in 17:06 of ice time. Another one with no shots in 17+ minutes? I’d say “Woof”, but he does have six points in eight games.

Joey Daccord – 29 saves on 37 shots and a good old-fashioned two-point conversion on 8 goals against. Maybe the Seahawks could use a backup kicker. That’s all the football references I can handle.

Shane Wright – One goal, shot, hit, and block. Maybe I’m wrong to think this, but it’s puzzling to think no team was willing to trade anything of substance for this guy. Seems like he’s been on top of the rumor mill for years now.

Kaapo Kakko – Two assists and two PIM. I had a deal in my dynasty for this guy with Chris Tanev heading out the other way. Then, in very unsurprising fashion, Tanev landed on the IL. Woof.

Jacob Markstrom – 20 saves on 23 shots in an 8-3 win. Jacob’s been on the mark so far this year with a 2.21 GAA. It doesn’t matter if he’s cruising to the iVictory coast (like he did here) or winning 1-0 games; managers will take any win they get.

Sam Bennett – Three goals, four shots, and two hits. Eight points in nine games is a pretty good start to a season. But he’s still being outscored by…

Carter Verhaeghe – Three goals, five shots, and one hit. Yes, I’m kidding with the whole “outscoring” thing, as Verhaeghe is at six goals and eight points too. The more important point is the Panthers haven’t missed a beat since losing Aleksander Barkov. I can’t imagine what kind of next level they’ll hit when he returns (hopefully at the end of November).

Matthew Tkachuk – Three assists, four shots, and one hit. Zero PIMS? Wow. Lady Byng, here we come!

Brady Tkachuk – Two assists, plus four, 2 PIM, seven shots, and one hit. Love him or hate him, he’s been filling up the sheet every night.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen – 30 saves on 34 shots in the 4-3 OT loss to MTL. Sabres fans probably aren’t too shaken up about this one after they beat the Leafs in the previous game. The question here might be: just how many starts do we see Luukkonen make in a Sabres jersey from here on out?

Jack Quinn – One goal, two shots, and 21:30 of ice time. I assume this is the main name holding up the Hellebuyck deal. Winnipeg almost certainly asked for this kid to be included (as they should) and Buffalo said, “No” (also as they should). This kid is flourishing in Western New York, and if you can somehow buy in a dynasty league, I’d be putting together trade offers.

Tage Thompson – One goal, five shots, one hit, one block. I know Dahlin is the captain there, but if I had a vote before that decision was made, it would’ve gone to this guy.

Josh Norris – One goal, four shots, one hit, two blocks. And he’s still healthy? Quick! Someone stick him back in the bubble wrap until the next game!

Jacob Fowler – 23 saves on 26 shots and his 3rd win. The 2.17 GAA and .900 save percentage are solid.

Cole Caufield – Two goals on five shots. I told a kid at school I wouldn’t be surprised if Caufield made a run at 60 goals this year, and he said I was crazy. Insert the “why not both” gif here!

Juraj Slafkovsky – Two assists, two PIM, one shot, one hit, two blocks. All of that is impressive, but I like the 17:51 of ice time even more. That’s the third-highest among Habs forwards here, behind Canfield and Nick Suzuki.

Ilya Sorokin – 28 saves on 29 shots and the 4-1 win at TOR. A 1.68 GAA and .940 save percentage?! Wow. Ride this hot streak for as long as it goes.

Simon Holmstrom – Two goals on two shots. I wouldn’t be rushing out to add this guy in shallow leagues unless you’re looking for shot percentage. 100% is as good as you can get!

Bo Horvat – One goal, one assist, two shots, two hits, and 24:21 of ice time. When your top forward’s ice time matches the superstar kid defenseman’s (seriously, to the second), you’ve got yourself a workhorse.

Matthew Schaefer – One assist, two PIM, five shots. And I bet you can guess the ice time!

Sergei Bobrovsky – 16 saves on 19 shots in the 4-1 loss to NYI. Uh oh. First Gavin McKenna gets benched, now the number one goalie gets pushed around at home on a Saturday night. Cancel the parade…for now.

Colton Sissons – One goal, one shot, one hit, one block. And one guy you would not have mentioned first if someone asked you who was the lone Leaf goal scorer on Saturday night.

Anton Forsberg – 24 saves on 26 shots and the 4-1 loss. Giving up seven goals in two starts isn’t ideal, but it also isn’t a good way to quell any Connor Hellebuyck chatter either.

Alex Laferrière – One goal, two shots, one hit, two blocks. He has four points in six games, but he’s going to need a lot more help if the Kings are going to do anything this year.

Brandt Clarke – One assist, four PIM, three hits. He’s almost at a point-per-game rate, so we can’t complain here. But if your league tracks plus/minus as a category…eek.

Jeremy Swayman – 25 saves on 26 shots and the 4-1 win at LAK. “Satur-Sway night, I feel the air is getting hot…Like you, baby!” Hey, don’t blame me. It’s what popped into my head, and now you’ll have to deal with the earworm that is “Saturday Night” by a band called Whigfield from way back in 1995. Sorry, I don’t make the rules.

I also don’t argue with anyone anymore when they say, every year, that the Bruins won’t be good and they’ll miss the playoffs. Seven wins in nine games do not make a season, but…so far so good!

David Pastrnak – One goal, one assist, three shots, one hit in 20:57 of ice time. Oh, captain!

Marat Khustodinov – One goal, one assist, two shots, in 11:07 of ice time. Way to show up your captain by doing it in almost half the time, MK!

Fraser Minten – One assist, two shots, two hits, three blocks, and one beauty of a clip last week that is sure to trigger some folks!

Sorry, Jeff “Is There Ketchup On That” O’Neill looks like he wants to crawl under the desk for this chat.

Alex Nedeljkovic – 24 saves on 27 shots in the 4-3 OTL at DET. Honestly, I’d kind of love to see Hellebuyck traded to San Jose if only to see how far that could take the kids there. The Sharks are good right now, but they’re only a couple of pieces away from being a very dangerous team.

Macklin Celebrini – One goal, two assists, seven shots, one hit, one block. I raised a few eyebrows when I said I’d rank Celebrini third behind Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon in straight points leagues. He’s living up to the hype again (albeit in a short sample size).

Ivan Stenberg – One goal, one assist, three shots, and 17:30 of ice time. Speaking of living up to the hype, I can see this kid being a Calder finalist with Gavin McKenna (and a James Hagens!).

John Gibson – 31 saves on 34 shots and the win. Gibson is used to seeing a ton of shots, but come on, guys. Moritz Seider can’t block a dozen shots a game by himself.

Moritz Seider – Four blocks, two assists, two shots, four hits. I led with the blocks because that’s what got him boosted in the multi-category leagues in the first place. Enjoy the ride, fellow fantasy managers.

Emmitt Finnie – One goal, one assist, two PIM, six shots, three blocks. If Emmitt keeps putting together games like this, he finna find himself on the first line! High five me!

Dylan Garand – 28 saves on 29 shots in a tough-luck 1-0 OT loss at CLM. This might get lost a bit in all the Hellebuyck chatter, but the kid has had as good a debut as anyone could have expected. A 1.82 GAA and .927 save percentage should at least make the Rangers think twice about trading away a lot of value to bring in a replacement for Shesterkin.

Jet Greaves – 29 saves on 29 shots in the 1-0 OT shutout win. There isn’t much to say here other than this is a kid that both Viz and I have high hopes for not just this year but beyond. If his team can help him out, he should push for an even higher win total than he had in last year’s career year (26).

Kent Johnson – One goal (OTW) and four shots in 20:55 of ice time. The other positive here is he’s getting time on the ice in overtime too. Riding on the right side of Adam Fantilli and Matthew Knies on Line 1 is working.

Linus Ullmark – 25 saves on 27 shots in the 3-1 loss at PHI. On one hand, it was a one-goal game (not including the empty net). On the other hand, you only need to use your thumb to count the Flyers’ wins. Oof.

Drake Batherson – One goal, one block, and four shots. Say Drake, I hear you like to score. He needed a few more from his teammates in this one, though.

Dan Vladar – 25 saves on 26 shots and the 3-1 win vs OTT. The GAA and save percentage look like Vladar did when he slid into the lava on Mustafar, but he had the high ground on Saturday. Hey, a win’s a win.

Porter Martone – One goal, one assist, four shots, two hits, and only one proofread to make sure I didn’t call him “Malone”.

Matvei Michkov – One goal, one assist, three shots, one hit, and one block. The goal was a PP one, so that’s good news. But the 14:29 of ice time still doesn’t feel like it’s enough. I saw an article online asking what a reasonable return would be for Michkov if the Flyers dealt him, and I couldn’t help but think of the Ryan Reynolds “But why?” GIF.

Spencer Knight – 28 saves on 32 shots in the 4-0 loss to DAL. Once again proving that if your team does not score, it is difficult to record a win. Follow me for more cutting-edge facts.

Jake Oettinger – 19 saves on 19 shots in the 4-0 win. That’s a shutout for Jakey O, channeling some old-school mojo in the Ed Belfour classic!

Arrtu Hyry – Two goals, five shots, and three hits. I was torn between a Jamaican or Star Wars reference here, so we’ll just say “Irie, everything is all good” and leave the droid pun for next time.

Jason Robertson – One goal, one assist, seven shots. If you’re looking for other category help, don’t look here. If you want goals and shots, though…he’s elite.

Jordan Binnington – 19 saves on 24 shots and the 5-2 loss at NSH. A few years ago, my kids nicknamed this guy “Jordan PeePeeTon from the Saint Poo-is Poos”, so at least I know a couple of people who aren’t too shaken up by this outcome.

Jimmy Snuggerud – One goal, three shots, and 19:31 of ice time. He was my breakout kid to watch last year, and he gave us 51 points in 70 games. Four goals in eight games this year is a good start to the follow-up.

Philip Broberg – One goal, four shots, and one blocked shot. He led all Blues in ice time (25:10), and it wasn’t even close. The window to pick him up on the cheap is closing, so if you have an impatient manager looking to move him out, now’s the time to send an offer.

Juuse Saros – 24 saves on 27 shots and the 5-2 win. Man, (and two women), writing notes up on the phone is nice and all, but these names drive me crazy. First it autocorrected to “Jose”, and I assumed that was from all of my baseball work. Then it autocorrected to “Jude,” and that was even more puzzling (I’m not a huge Beatles fan or anything). Oh, and Saros is still posting good numbers despite the “advanced age”.

Filip Forsberg – One goal, one assist, two PIM, two shots, one hit. Speaking of older players, can you guess if Forsberg is older than Juuse? Because I guessed and was wrong.

Steven Stamkos – Stamkos, Roman Josi, and Adam Wilsby each had two assists. But Grandpa Stammer was the automatic reflex to continue the “old guy” theme. (For the record, both he and Josi are 36 years old).

Sergei Murashov – 14 saves on 19 shots in the 6-2 loss. More like Mura-shove-this-guy-off-the-ice. Boom. Nailed it.

Sidney Crosby – One goal, two PIM, one shot. Oh, and if you missed it, check this out.

Ho, hum. Just another day at the office for the Prince of Pennsylvania.

Adin Hill – 22 saves on 24 shots at the win. If the Knights prefer one goalie over the other, the number of games started isn’t giving anything away. This was Hill’s 4th game (Carter Hart has played in six).

Mark Stone – One goal, two assists, one shot. If he stays healthy, he’s a steal. But that if is bigger than the Bellagio Hotel.

Jack Eichel – Two assists. Mitch Marner and Trevor Vonnelly had two points in this one too, but I had to write up Eichel so I could include this…”I know Viz said he was headed to Vegas this weekend to watch the Bills, but I like to think that he took some time to take in this game Saturday night so he could boo Jack Eichel on behalf of all the Buffalo fans who couldn’t make the trip”.

Tristan Jarry – 24 saves on 26 shots in the 6-2 win at UTA. I know it’s tough to mess up when you’ve got the best player in the world leading an offense in front of you, but Jarry hasn’t made it look easy. That said, I’ll take the win in my dynasty league.

Connor McDavid – Two goals, three assists, plus four, two shots, one hit, one block. I saw a graphic that said McDavid is on pace for a 242-point season and thought, “Ya. I could see it.” The fact that it even seems possible is crazy enough.

Leon Draisaitl – One goal, one assist, plus four, one shot, one hit. If Leon is the Messier to McDavid’s Gretzky act, then I’m sure no one is complaining.

Karel Vejmelka – 12 saves on 17 shots and the early hook (Sebastian Cossa finished this game). It was only Vej’s 2nd loss of the year (compared to 5 Ws), but either way, that .879 save percentage still needs some correction.

Mikhail Sergachev – One goal on four shots. It’s a long shot, but would anyone be surprised if Sergachev pushed his way into the Top 10 defensemen this year? Maybe even get him some Norris votes?

Daniil But – One assist, one shot, two hits. Come on. How have the Habs not offered to trade everything that isn’t nailed down for this guy yet? Can you imagine the Bell Centre exploding every time the announcer shouts “Et le but! Par BUT!” after he scores?

SUNDAY GAMES

Cam Talbot – 32 saves on 34 shots in a tough 2-1 loss at MIN. No blame on Talbot here. Wallstedt was lucky to face only a third of the shots that Talbot did. As I said above, though. A win’s a win.

Adam Fantilli – One goal, two shots, and two blocked shots. Zach Werenski assisted on it, too. Hey, when a team scores one goal, it’s tough to find much else to report.

Jesper Wallstedt – 13 saves on 14 shots in a 2-1 win. Cam Talbot outworked him, but Jesper walked away with the dub.

Kirill Kaprizov – One goal on five shots. Kirill the Thrill keeps lighting that lamp!

Danila Yurov – One goal on four shots. If you’re expecting hits or blocked shots from “The Vanilla Danila”, you need to look elsewhere.

The late game…

I didn’t want to be up all night editing, so I punched this up while the Carolina/Calgary game was still going on.

When last I checked, Carolina was up 1-0 about halfway through the second period.

Brandon Bussi had already stopped all 14 shots he faced, and I was going to say I was happy that Dustin Wolf had only allowed one…until I saw it was Devin Cooley who got the start for the Flames. Ugh.

Jesper Kotkaniemi was the lone goal scorer (thus far).

Oh, and as a final nod to infect your eardrums, here’s that doozy of a 90s banger that was rippin through my head all afternoon yesterday. Enjoy!

That’s all for this WEEKEND! I hope you enjoyed it. If you have any questions or comments, leave them below, and I’ll get back to you ASAP.

Happy Monday, and I’ll see you on Wednesday with the Tuesday night roundup!
