Instead of my usual Monday daily notes, I am going to update my list of holds and streams for every NHL team. This should help everyone out quite a bit in companion with my Playoff Schedule Manifesto. I will also add in some notes where I feel like they’re necessary, either to explain myself, or some quick thoughts on a player. Let’s get right to it!
ANAHEIM DUCKS
Holds: Getzlaf, Rakell, Perry, Fowler, Gibson
Streams: Silfverberg, Henrique, Kesler, Montour, Lindholm, Manson, Miller
Ondrej Kase has really fallen off lately so I wouldn’t use him. I debated over all of the defensemen between stream and hold. Fowler has been better lately that I think he’s a hold, but the others are a bit behind. I think I actually prefer Manson as a plus-minus and PIM specialist with decent assists.
ARIZONA COYOTES
Holds: OEL, Keller, Raanta
Streams: Stepan, Domi, Goligoski
I debated over making Raanta their only hold. Oliver Ekman-Larsson‘s plus-minus is a major problem, especially in roto leagues. I’d say in roto, I wouldn’t be holding him, but I would in head to head.
BOSTON BRUINS
Holds: Marchand, Pastrnak, Krug, McAvoy, Nash, Krejci, Rask,
Streams: Backes, DeBrusk, Khudobin
Patrice Bergeron‘s broken foot really helps David Backes, but I still think he’s only a streamer. David Krejci and Rick Nash are both very close. Of the two, I prefer Nash as he’s registered at least five shots on goal in all of his games for Boston.
BUFFALO SABRES
Holds: Eichel, RoR, Risto, Reinhart
Streams: Okposo, Lehner, Johnson
Jack Eichel‘s return is coming soon, which could end up hurting Ryan O’Reilly a bit. For now, I’m leaving him in the hold category. Sam Reinhart has been a point per game player for the last 6-8 weeks so I’m still holding him. I’d only use the goalies in great spots at this point.
CAROLINA HURRICANES
Holds: Aho, Skinner, Teravainen, Ward
Streams: Faulk, Staal, Williams, Hanifin, Lindholm
I thought Carolina was going to have much better options going into the season, but they’re actually pretty barren. Justin Faulk could be a specialist for you at the bottom of your roster, and I do like Justin Williams as a streamer right now.
CALGARY FLAMES
Holds: Gaudreau, Monahan, Tkachuk, Hamilton, Giordano, Smith
Streams: Backlund, Brodie, Bennett
Super straight forward team. Michael Ferland has been out lately, but he was awful for an extended period before that, so I wouldn’t use him even when he returns.
CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS
Holds: Kane, Toews
Streams: Schmaltz, Saad, Keith, DeBrincat, Anisimov
I think Chicago is clear cut; I don’t understand why people are still owning Duncan Keith. He’s over 85% owned yet he has one goal on the season and is -19. Not even in the ballpark.
COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS
Holds: Panarin, Werenski, Jones, Atkinson, Bobrovsky
Streams: Foligno, Vanek, Dubois, Wennberg, Bjorkstrand
Cam Atkinson keeps rolling; I’d even hold him in 10’ers. Thomas Vanek is getting very few minutes right now which is a bit frustrating, yet unsurprising with Torts.
COLORADO AVALANCHE
Holds: MacKinnon, Rantanen, Barrie, Landeskog, Varlamov
Streams: Kerfoot
Semyon Varlamov is close to desperation, but he’s getting all of the starts on a decent enough team that he probably needs to be owned.
DALLAS STARS
Holds: Benn, Seguin, Radulov, Klingberg, Bishop
Streams: Lehtonen, Roussel
Normally there are a few more streamers for Dallas, but all of their secondary guys have been pretty bad for a while now. Faksa, Janmark, and Spezza could all get back to being decent streamers, but right now they’re not that close. Obviously Antoine Roussel is a pure PIM stream.
DETROIT RED WINGS
Holds: Larkin, Green, Howard
Streams: Mantha, Zetterberg, Nyquist, Athanasiou
I’m fine with cutting Mike Green if there’s an upgrade on your wire. The only reason he’s still under holds is how bleak the defenseman pool is.
EDMONTON OILERS
Holds: McDavid, Draisaitl, Talbot
Streams: Lucic, RNH, Strome, Nurse
If you need the PIM, you can still hold Milan Lucic. I don’t have any stock in him, but with one point in the last ten games, I’d cut bait.
FLORIDA PANTHERS
Holds: Barkov, Huberdeau, Dadonov, Trocheck, Yandle, Ekblad, Luongo
Streams: Bjugstad
Don’t think this needs any explanation.
LOS ANGELES KINGS
Holds: Kopitar, Carter, Toffoli, Brown, Doughty, Muzzin, Phaneuf, Quick
Streams: Kempe, Pearson
Dion Phaneuf has been solid since being traded to the Kings so I’m inclined to hold him at this point. Pearson and Toffoli should start to improve with Jeff Carter back in the fold.
MINNESOTA WILD
Holds: Staal, Granlund, Zucker, Suter, Dumba, Spurgeon, Dubnyk
Streams: Niederreiter, Coyle, Koivu, Parise
Not much to add here except that Zach Parise is finally showing signs of life with a point in each of his last four games. I’m not rushing to use him or anything, but he’s back on the radar.
MONTREAL CANADIENS
Holds: Pacioretty, Gallagher, Price (if you have an IR spot)
Streams: Drouin, Galchenyuk, Petry
I’ve always been a Brendan Gallagher fan so maybe I’m giving him a bit too much credit. He’s playing very well right now though and the shot rate is excellent.
NEW JERSEY DEVILS
Holds: Hall, Palmieri, Maroon, Vatanen, Schneider
Streams: Hischier, Wood, Butcher
There’s a few interesting debates here. Patrick Maroon has been solid in his early going in New Jersey, so I’m inclined to run with him to see if he stays hot. Sami Vatanen has been killing it lately so I’d grab him for sure. I also don’t understand why people are still owning Will Butcher.
NASHVILLE PREDATORS
Holds: Forsberg, Arvidsson, Johansen, Subban, Josi, Ellis, Rinne
Streams: Turris, Smith, Fiala, Hartnell, Hartman Ekholm, Saros
Things have been a bit better for Mattias Ekholm lately with Josi missing the last two games, but I don’t think it’s going to last. I also didn’t have Ryan Hartman on the streaming list before, but he did play on the second line on Sunday. I still don’t like him much because the minutes are unstable, but it’s worth considering at least.
NEW YORK ISLANDERS
Holds: Tavares, Lee, Bailey, Barzal, Eberle, Leddy
Streams: Halak
Nick Leddy is in the same boat as OEL; I would hold him in head to head but wouldn’t in roto leagues. Jaroslav Halak is a desperation play no matter the matchup.
Holds: Namestnikov, Zuccarello, Lundqvist
Streams: Zibanejad, Kreider, Hayes, Buchnevich, Spooner, Skjei
I debated Vladislav Namestnikov but he’s played too well this year to cut yet, even after losing his spot on the top line in the league. Mika Zibanejad has been better for the last week, but he was brutal before that so I’m still leaning stream. Also, Ryan Spooner is on fire and an elite stream right now.
OTTAWA SENATORS
Holds: Karlsson, Hoffman, Stone
Streams: Duchene, Ryan, Chabot, Anderson
Pretty clear, I just want to tell Guy Boucher that at this point in the season, there’s no reason why Thomas Chabot shouldn’t be playing 23+ minutes a night.
PHILADELPHIA FLYERS
Holds: Giroux, Voracek, Couturier, Simmonds, Gostisbehere, Provorov, Mrazek,
Streams: Konecny, Patrick
I’m very encouraged by how Nolan Patrick has played over the last few weeks. Travis Konecny is right on the fence and you could easily convince me that he’s a hold.
PITTSBURGH PENGUINS
Holds: Crosby, Malkin, Kessel, Brassard, Guentzel, Hornqvist, Letang, Murray, Jarry
Streams: Rust, Sheary
I originally wrote Bryan Rust as a hold since he’s playing with Crosby right now, but it’s still probably a step behind as only an elite streamer. The minutes aren’t great for Derick Brassard but the opportunity is still excellent.
SAN JOSE SHARKS
Holds: Burns, Pavelski, Kane, Couture, Jones
Streams: Hertl, Labanc, Meier, Vlasic, Dell
Trivial lists in my opinion. I guess it’s worth noting that Evander Kane has looked excellent in his first few games on the Sharks.
ST. LOUIS BLUES
Holds: Tarasenko, Schwartz, Schenn, Pietrangelo, Hutton
Streams: Steen, Parayko, Allen
I’m okay with holding Colton Parayko, but I’m confused as to why he’s over 80% owned. I debated over both goaltenders, mostly Hutton. Jake Allen has been awful so you can safely cut bait. Carter Hutton is close but because their playoff schedule includes the Blues playing on a lot of light days, I’m still holding tight.
TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING
Holds: Stamkos, Kucherov, Point, Gourde, Johnson, Hedman, McDonagh, Vasilevskiy
Streams: Miller, Killorn, Sergachev
Mikhail Sergachev has completely fallen off, and with Ryan McDonagh set to make his Lightning debut on Tuesday, I’m just cutting him. Alex Killorn has had first crack at replacing Names with Stamkos and Kucherov so he’s as good of a streamer as it gets right now.
TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS
Holds: Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Kadri, JVR, Rielly, Gardiner, Andersen
Streams: Marleau, Bozak, Hyman
Jake Gardiner is the only thing up for debate here. While he’s an AAGNOF, we’re looking at around 45 assists so I’d hold tight.
VANCOUVER CANUCKS
Holds: Boeser, Horvat, D. Sedin
Streams: H. Sedin, Markstrom, Nilsson
Daniel Sedin has been hotter than a pistol so while I don’t expect it to last, I’d hold him right now. They have a quality schedule coming up too. Goalies are a matchup dependent play.
VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS
Holds: Marchessault, Karlsson, Smith, Perron, Haula, Miller, Fleury
Streams: Neal, Tatar, Tuch, Schmidt
So James Neal is listed as a stream with a caveat. If you can afford to leave him on your bench while he’s out, then do that. I think he’s a hold when healthy, but he’s not at the moment and he’s not on IR so you can’t stash him. If you need to push right now, I think you have to cut him.
WINNIPEG JETS
Holds: Wheeler, Scheifele, Laine, Ehlers, Stastny, Connor, Byfuglien, Myers, Hellebuyck
Streams: Perreault, Little, Roslovic
Tyler Myers might drop down to streamer when Trouba returns, but that won’t be for a bit still. I remain bullish on Kyle Connor but he’s right on the fence.
WASHINGTON CAPITALS
Holds: Ovechkin, Kuznetsov, Backstrom, Oshie, Carlson, Holtby
Streams: Niskanen, Wilson, Grubauer
Can’t imagine any of this is controversial. Philipp Grubauer has played lights out lately so if I owned Holtby, I might want to cover myself and own Grubauer.
That’s all for now guys. With five games on the slate tonight, the amount of action will determine if I have notes on Tuesday morning. Either way, there certainly will be on Wednesday. As always, please ask any questions, leave any comments, or give any suggestions below. Thanks for reading, take care!
