“Boldy is the type of player that I love to have on my team. Boldy’s extremely safe across the board with plenty of upside.” And that’s me quoting me from my preseason rankings copying what Grey does! Nothing like a career high in goals for Boldy before the Olympic break. Boldy was outstanding on Wednesday, scoring a hat trick in the first period against the Predators, later adding an assist in the victory. While the shots are slightly down, Boldy is still over three per game, and already has 32+30 in 54 games. That’s a borderline top 10 forward. I had Boldy in my top 25 overall going into the season, slightly ahead of his ADP. Granted, when it’s this early in drafts, slightly ahead put him on a bunch of my teams. He should only continue to get better going forward and has the chance to be reach superstardom during the Olympics. Let’s take a look at what else happened over the last two nights:
Wednesday’s Games:
Jet Greaves – 21 save shutout in the 4-0 win over Chicago. Greaves has the second best save percentage over the last two seasons behind Vasilevskiy and Hellebuyck. I was extremely high on Greaves and it’s paying dividends. There’s a good chance he delivers on my bold prediction of being a #1 fantasy goalie this year.
Charlie Coyle – Two assists with a shot. I’d say Coyle is an elite streamer while he’s on fire, but now there’s no games for three weeks. We’ll see where he picks up afterwards, but the switch to Bowness is doing him wonders.
Samuel Montembeault – 36 saves on 37 shots in the 5-1 win over the Jets. Montembeault has been atrocious lately, with Montreal turning to Dobes for most games. I wouldn’t be holding him in 12’ers or shallower.
Brendan Gallagher– Goal and two assists with two PIM, as did Josh Anderson. These guys had their time of being valuable fantasy assets, but that time has passed.
Noah Dobson – Two assists with a shot. Dobson really can’t do much better than he is without Hutson getting injured.
Mikey Eyssimont – Two goals on four shots and two PIM. I always was a fan of Eyssimont as a fourth liner, but that doesn’t really matter for fantasy.
Hampus Lindholm – Two assists with two shots. Lindholm is close to the fringe. I rarely stream defensemen, so he’s more of a filler if you have injuries on your blue line.
Anton Lundell – Goal and two assists with four shots. Firmly on the fringe.
Matthew Tkachuk – Goal and an assist with four shots. Business as usual for Tkachuk since his return.
Uvis Balinskis – Goal and an assist with two shots. As long as Balinskis has PP1, there’s some value, but mostly for deeper leagues.
Quinn Hughes – Two assists with a shot and two PIM. All your assists are belong to Hughes!
Steven Stamkos – Goal and two assists with six shots and two PIM. The top guys for Nashville crushed, as Ryan O’Reilly dished three assists, Roman Josi had a goal and an assist with six shots, while Filip Forsberg had a goal and an assist with six shots. Their studs are keeping Nashville in the playoff race, especially Josi. He is on an tear of epic proportions.
Karel Vejmelka – 29 saves on 30 shots in the 4-1 win over the Mammoth. Vejmelka leads the league in wins. Even with numbers that are fine but nothing special, he’s a borderline #1.
Nick Schmaltz – Goal and an assist, as did Clayton Keller. Schmaltz has already tied a career high in goals and should easily set a career high in points. Easy hold everywhere.
Valeri Nichushkin – Three assists with two shots. The first line for Colorado crushed, as Artturi Lehkonen scored two goals on five shots, while Nathan MacKinnon dished two assists with four shots. The problem for Big Val is that Necas will be back after the break and he’s been stapled to MacKinnon’s wing. Nichushkin is on the fringe, but a lean towards elite streamer.
Justin Faulk – Two assists with two shots. On the fringe, but a slight lean towards holding Faulk.
Jordan Kyrou – Goal and an assist with four shots. It’s been a very frustrating season for Kyrou, but he has eight points in the last four games and 13 points in his last 10. I have him in the elite streamer category, but he could easily turn into a hold down the stretch.
Jimmy Snuggerud – Goal and an assist. He’s showing some real signs of turning the corner, with nine points in his last six games. We’ll see how he’s looking after the break.
Jamie Benn – Two goals and an assist. Benn is on fire, but the minutes are still quite low. He’s a solid streamer with a chance of upside if he does play more.
Matt Duchene – Goal and an assist with three shots. Duchene is also on a six game point streak, but the shot rate is horrendous. Solid streamer.
Miro Heiskanen – Two assists with two shots and two PIM. I thought Harley would be their top guy for fantasy, but Miro has it locked in. Solid #2 in 12’ers.
Jason Robertson – Goal and an assist with six shots. Guerin better hope they don’t struggle to score when it counts because I’m still in disbelief he isn’t on the USA team.
Teddy Blueger – Two assists with two shots. And there’s your annual Blueger update!
Mark Stone – Two assists with two shots. Jack Eichel had a goal and an assist with five shots. Just stay healthy!
Shane Wright – Two goals. I’d really like to see what Wright could do with more playing time. As is, he’s only a bottom end to middling streamer.
Freddy Gaudreau – Two assists. No thanks.
Chandler Stephenson – Two assists. The points are solid, but he’s only a middling streamer. It’s insane that he plays as many minutes are he does with how badly the Kraken get caved with Stephenson on the ice.
Andrei Kuzmenko – Two goals, both assisted by Kevin Fiala. Kuzmenko is still on PP1 so he has the occasional big game, but overall, there’s not much here. Bottom end streamer.
Evan Bouchard – Three assists with two shots and two PIM. It’s a high bar to clear, but this has been Bouchard’s best offensive season yet. Absolute beast for fantasy.
Leon Draisaitl – Two goals on five shots. Business as usual for Draisaitl. There’s a chance he sets a career high in assists.
Nazem Kadri – Two assists, as did MacKenzie Weegar and Zach Whitecloud. I’m expecting Kadri to get traded, but it’s not 100%. The plus-minus is brutal at the moment, but I’d probably hold just because the upside is there if he is moved. He also has an atrocious shooting percentage and is due for a lot of positive regression.
Matvei Gridin – Goal and an assist with three shots. Gridin, a former first round pick, was getting top power play time in this game. He was sent back down to the AHL after the game, but I assume he comes back up after the break? There’s some long term upside, and we’ll have to see his role after the break to see his short term value. Welcome to the Razzball Database!
Thursday’s Games
Adam Wilsby – Two assists with a shot. He’s hot at the moment, but I don’t see any value for Wilsby.
Jakob Chychrun – Two goals and an assist with seven shots. It’s a shame Washington is disappointing so far because Chychrun is playing at an incredible level. If I was running Team Canada, he’d be on their Olympic team.
Dylan Strome – Two assists with a shot. Strome cooled off, but he’s still a bottom end hold.
Pierre-Luc Dubois – Goal and an assist with two shots in his return from injury. We know the upside for PLD, but it can get ugly at times as well. Whether or not you want to spec add him is your call.
James Reimer – 15 saves on 16 shots in the 2-1 OT win over the Flyers. No fantasy value at this point in Reimer’s career.
Brandon Bussi – 16 save shutout in the 2-0 win over the Rangers. Doesn’t get much easier than that. Bussi has become the Carolina #1 and is a top 10 fantasy goalie as a result.
Ilya Sorokin – 23 saves on 24 shots in the 3-1 win over the Devils. Sorokin has been the best goalie in the league this season in terms of goals saved above expected. Great to see him back in top form.
Bo Horvat – Goal and an assist. Horvat has the best shot rate of his career, which is helping him thrive. He’s a borderline top 50 player at the moment.
Ben Kindel – Two goals. I’ve become a huge fan of Kindel this season. It’s more for the long term, although he’s a middling streamer for now.
Avery Hayes – Two goals on six shots in his NHL debut. I was at this game and Hayes’ speed did stand out. He even missed an empty netter to get a hat trick. I’m not sure he’ll even be on the roster after the break, so it’s hard to give any answer on his value until then. He’s not considered much of a prospect though. Welcome to the Razzball Database!
Andrei Vasilevskiy – 33 saves on 34 shots in the 6-1 win over the Panthers. He’s easily the #1 fantasy goalie right now and has a chance to get another Vezina.
Oliver Bjorkstrand -Goal and an assist with three shots. Bjorkstrand has middling streamer value as long as he’s on PP1.
Pontus Holmberg – Goal and an assist with three shots. Holmberg has been part of Tampa’s elite shutdown line, but that doesn’t do us anything for fantasy. I don’t even see much deep league value.
Adin Hill – 32 saves on 33 shots in the 4-1 win over the Kings. Hill has been one of the worst goalies in the league this season, although he’s only played in 12 games. The upside is undeniable, so I’d probably stubbornly hold.
Ivan Barbashev – Two assists with two PIM. As long as he’s with Eichel and Stone, Barbashev is a solid streamer.
Pavel Dorofeyev – Goal and an assist with two shots. Clearly a hold, although it’s towards the bottom end.
That’s all for now guys. With no games over the next three weeks or so, I obviously won’t be having daily notes. I’m not exactly sure what I’ll be posting yet, but I still plan to have two posts a week, with MarmosDad still posting on Wednesday’s. He will be breaking down the trade deadline over the next couple weeks. As always, feel free to ask any questions, leave any comments, or give any suggestions below. Thanks for reading, take care!
Hi!
In a H2H 12’ers with (G), (A), (+/-), (PIM), (PPP), (GWG), (SOG), (HIT), (BLK)
I’m thinking about dropping Elias Pettersson. Should I have patience and wait for trade deadline or just drop him?
