Hey guys!  I hope everyone is still alive in their fantasy hockey seasons.  In lieu of daily notes, I’m going to preview Monday’s games since at this point in the season, I’m not sure daily notes will serve much purpose.  Depending on feedback (please give some!), I will continue to do this over the last two weeks of the season or I will return to daily notes.  I am going to focus solely on the games, so if you want to plan ahead past today, use my playoff schedule breakdown here to help yourself out.  You can always ask me any questions you have as well.  Let’s get to it!

Ottawa @ Carolina:

These two teams just played on Saturday and the Hurricanes won 5-2.  In the last two weeks, every Carolina game has had at least six goals, while the majority of Senators games have been high scoring.  This is a really nice game to target guys to stream because both teams play again on Tuesday.  I think for Carolina guys, I would target Valentin Zykov first.  The prospect has back to back two point games, and now has a power play role.  I also expect the minutes to increase because Carolina has nothing to play for.  I would definitely fade both goalies.

Panthers @ Islanders:

This game has a massive over-under total of 6.5 goals.  With the Panthers battling to make the playoffs and the Islanders in a tailspin, you have to like the Panthers in this spot.  Nick Bjugstad would be my first choice if he happens to be available in your league.  Otherwise, Frank Vatrano is my target in this plus matchup.  Anthony Beauvillier is the only Islander I would consider.  You’d have to pay me to consider using whoever the Islanders start in net.  I don’t hate using the Florida goalie (presumably Roberto Luongo) since I like their chances to win, but there is massive risk.

Sabres @ Maple Leafs

The Sabres have looked awful lately (even more than usual) so expect Toronto to run wild on them tonight.  Whoever starts in net for Toronto (I’m guessing McElhinney but just a guess) is the #1 goalie play of the day.  If Curtis McElhinney gets the start, he’s an incredible streamer.  The tough thing is that most of Toronto’s guys are must own players or unusable.  The one streamer in play among their forwards is Tyler Bozak if you want some assists.  If Sam Reinhart is available in your league, he’s a viable streamer, but he’s the only Sabre.  Don’t even consider using however starts in net.

Red Wings @ Canadiens

This game is massive… for lottery positioning.  Brendan Gallagher is killing it lately and as a long time fan of his, I love him in this game.  Alex Galchenyuk is a nice streamer as well.  The Red Wings are so bad right now that I’m not sure I’d use anyone.  I don’t mind using either goalie in this game, whoever that may be, as it might end up being quite the snoozer.

Capitals @ Rangers

Despite being out of the race, the Rangers are playing decent hockey.  Most of that is coming from their top line which is hotter than a pistol right now.  Chris Kreider is available in over 50% of leagues so he’s an excellent streamer.  Neal Pionk also should be in consideration if you need some assists.  AAGNOF!  I would not trust Alexandar Georgiev, and I will forever be bitter about him ruining my fantasy season with his big game against the Sabres Saturday.  The Capitals are obviously a different animal.  Philipp Grubauer will probably get the start and should be used in every game going forward.  As far as streamers for the Caps going, the only real guy is Tom Wilson.  He could get you off to a big lead in penalty minutes and is also scoring at a decent enough rate.

Coyotes @ Lightning

Arizona has closed the season well, but with the Atlantic Division up for grabs, we should see Tampa’s best game.  Obviously start whoever is in net for Tampa, presumably Andrei Vasilevskiy.  The unfortunate thing is that everyone that is worth a damn on Tampa right now is owned, so there really isn’t a streamer option.  I suppose I don’t mind taking a shot on Anthony Cirelli if you do want a piece of the Lightning tonight.  I think we see Antti Raanta going back into the crease, but obviously it’s a huge risk starting him in Tampa.  I’m fading their guys as streamers, but if one of their top guys is available, you can go with it.

Sharks @ Blackhawks

The Sharks have the longest winning streak in the league right now while the Blackhawks are trending in the opposite direction.  Tomas Hertl is a great streaming option and I don’t mind using Timo Meier either.  Whoever starts in net for the Sharks is a great option.  For Chicago, I wouldn’t even consider using their goalie.  I don’t mind using Alex DeBrincat for his upside but it’s not the best spot.

Avalanche @ Golden Knights

This is a rematch of Saturday’s thriller with Semyon Varlamov and Marc-Andre Fleury stealing the show.  Vegas clinches with a point so expect T-Mobile Arena to be rocking.  Use whoever is in net for Vegas (presumably Fleury) while Tomas Tatar is the best streamer of their bunch.  This looks like a game to fade Varlamov, but we know he has massive upside.  Use him at your own risk.  I don’t think there’s anyone on Colorado worth streaming.

Flames @ Kings

The Flames don’t even look like they’re trying now that their season is over.  The Kings are in a massive playoff battle, so I’m expecting a beatdown here.  I wouldn’t use anyone on Calgary outside of the top guys.  Tanner Pearson and Adrian Kempe are nice streaming options while Jonathan Quick or Jack Campbell will be among the best options of the night.

That’s all for now guys.  If you could leave me some feedback on this, I would greatly appreciate it.  I am willing to add to what I currently have (perhaps ranking best overall streamers at the end?) or scrap it altogether if people don’t like it.  As always, feel free to ask any questions or leave any other comments below.  I will be back on Tuesday with a topic to be determined based on that feedback.  Thanks for reading, take care!

    dynasty with hits, blocks PPP, SHP, faceoffs added. 20 teamer with 4 of each forward, 6 D, 1 G
    drop which out of these
    rattie (STL can’t be happy with that, they literally dropped him more than 3 times got him back every time except the last), tuch, burakovsky (good god is this guy the epitome of the “effortless russian”), perlini, zykov (just added, he once upon a time was a fairly high LA prospect)

      @Steve Anus: Hmm, I think I’d drop Burakovsky. I’m not convinced his all-around game will get better at this point for him to ever see a minutes increase. The points are solid for a 20 teamer, sure, but the PIM this year are fluky based on past years, the shot rate is bad, and the hits aren’t great either. I don’t think the gap is that big between him and some others, mostly because there is still some chance he can put it together consistently, but I just don’t see it.

    vizzzz… thx for all the help this year! winnninnnggg! Anyway I was reading in the baseball forums you got 6 pitchers in your first 6 picks? how can an auto draft be programmed that poorly lol. In our draft Like 4 people said ouch in chat when the auto guy picked bungarber in the 3rd lol. bunGAR LOL

      @Shitwolf: No problem buddy, good to hear! Yeah, sigh 🙁 I thought I had Rudy’s ranks saved into FanTrax but apparently they weren’t and I couldn’t get into the lobby from the app for some reason. There will be a post about the Writers Draft, but obviously it’ll take a lot of work for me to get that team even respectable. I love my Experts Draft team though so fingers crossed that team is good.

        @Viz:

        that really sucks man, but good luck in the other league. What league type is it? I used Rudy’s ranks as well for my 6×6 OPS draft hopefully they are legit.

          @Shitwolf: Thanks! It’s another RCL. Rudy is the best, I’m sure it’ll work out.

          @Shitwolf:

          Also I’m rude you asked for feedback… this format is nice because it allows you to plan you to plan ahead instead of hearing about who just played well. Maybe if you did a post like this at the start of the week with some of the better matchups and players to grab outlined, then you could do your normal posts throughout the week. This would lead to some excellent me quoting me situations where you can quote yourself after a player you said to pick up had a good performance.

            @Shitwolf: You’re good man, appreciate it. That’s a good idea, I can do that for Monday next week. I feel like for the last month of the season, it doesn’t do a ton of good doing daily notes because I can tie things that change into game previews anyways. It can also lead me to making some bad calls but that’s the nature of the beast haha

            • Shitwolf says:
              (link)

              ya exactly! You could always make a streamer counter that shows your stats on good streams vs bad haha

  4. Domingue vs. ARI (Raanta) or Philipp Grubauer @ NYR (Alexandar Georgiev) or Price vs.DET (Jared Coreau). Frederik Andersen still listed as the probable starter, so maybe no McElhinney tonight. I was leaning Grubauer. Thanks Viz!

    • Viz

      Viz says:
      (link)

      @madden_curser: I still think McElhinney gets the start, but you’re right, it’s still unconfirmed. It’s just guess work on my part, so if you don’t want to wait it out, I agree with you that I’d go with Grubauer. He’s been so damn good lately that it outweighs having a worse matchup than the other two, especially since the Caps should still win.

    • Viz

      Viz says:
      (link)

      @madden_curser: they decided on Andersen, which quite frankly shocks me and doesn’t make a lot of sense, but that definitely makes Grubauer the play. Good luck!

    hay viz good stuff. I got lucky last week and won because of 1 fucking assist from Brandon Montour. Dodged a bullet there i had 13 players more and it was that goddamn close because my goalies sucked (Kuemper wasnt really surprising but dubnyk killed me once again in the POs).
    Hope i will have better goaltending this week but my opponent is better overall…

      @Saints: Thanks Saints! Glad you won! Here’s to some good luck for you between the pipes

      • Saints says:

        @Viz:
        can you help me with my goaltending strategy ?
        We have the following categories Svs, Ws, SV%, GAA,SHO
        MY Golies are Dubnyk,Reimer,Stalock and Neuvirth if he comes back(can promote darling)
        My Opponent has: Jones, Halak and Gibson (can promote McElhiney,Kinkaid, Giles)

        Dubnyk+Stalock have 3 Games this week with Florida having 4 Games (1 Back to back) i expect Reimer to get 2 Games (am i right) with neuvirth coming back i could get to a maximum of 5-6 games.

        The Islanders are playing 4 games on 2 Back to Backs so i expect Halak to get 2 games Anaheim has 3 games without back to backs so i expect Gibson to get 3 games. The sharks have 4 games with one back to back so i expect Jones to get 3 starts as well. These are 8 games total with upside through promotions.
        Therefore i dont think i can compette in the W and SV category.
        And need to focus on GAA and SV% do you think the same way ?

        Therefore i dont like to use Reimer tonight against the NYI. On the other side its a pretty tough week anyway Dubnyks Matchups are pretty horrible. With Nashville on Tuesday and Dallas on Thursday and Saturday.

        What do you think about my whole situation and what would you do tonight with Reimer ? (if he starts :D)

        • Viz

          Viz says:
          (link)

          @Saints: I don’t like going into the week punting on wins, so I’d be inclined to start Reimer in net tonight. I know there is some risk, but Reimer has a good chance at a win. If you get some good starts, then I can definitely see being selective in starts to lock up GAA and sv% later in the week. The problem with planning to do that from the beginning, is if you get a bad start from Dubnyk or someone else, then you’re going to be dead across the board because you passed on starts earlier in the week. With your strategy, best case is you go 2-2 (ignoring shutouts here, because it’s near neutral being so unlikely even if you don’t get enough starts), but your most likely finish is losing 3 of the 4, and 0-4 is in play. You have a better chance of finishing 2-2 in this scenario, and even have an outside chance at getting a 3-1 win. Also, if your opponent starts well, he could, in theory, decide to sit guys too and lock up a big win for yourself. You have to stay close enough in wins and saves to be a threat or he could lock down a big win sitting guys.

            @Viz:
            You’re right with bad matchups for dubnyk and reimer having a good chance to get a win i should go for it 🙂
            Thanks for your help and the long read you took i hoped i explained it well 😀

              @Saints: You did, and I can definitely get on board if you get a couple good starts to open the week. I’d just like to make sure you get a good start before you stuck in a hole you can’t get out of.

                @Viz: oh yeah what a great suggestion 🙂 loved it 🙂 what a way to start the week even though my skaters werent as great (only dadonov got points). I think i bench all goalies now and go with (probably) 3 points 🙂

                  (link)

                  @Saints: There’s no minimum for goalie starts in a week? That’s kind of crazy, although I guess the inclusion of saves makes it less crazy

                  • Saints says:
                    (link)

                    @Viz:
                    Yeah thats right the saves makes it more appealing to start goalies and punishes you if you bench everybody like i plan to do. Its a deep dynasty without streaming so its complicated to include minimum Goaliestarts.

  6. Looking ahead to tomorrow I see Keith Kinkaid vs. CAR (Darling). Also, SJ is back-to-back, so maybe Dell goes in for Martin Jones tomorrow @ STL. Kinkaid is already confirmed for tomorrow, and I have Jones, so I can leave him in the other slot in case he plays, or is brought in off the bench during the game. So, I was leaning to snatch Kinkaid for tomorrow, as soon as the games start tonight. Any thoughts on that move Viz? I would think Kinkaid has a decent chance at a W against CAR at home. I’m in the final week for all the marbles and your write-ups & advice has helped me get there, so just want to say thank you again for that!

    • Viz

      Viz says:
      (link)

      @madden_curser: Yeah I’m with you, I’m going with Kinkaid so you know that you’re locked into a start, perhaps even two starts if Jones does get the game. No problem man, hopefully you get that title!

    i watched Nashville vs Winnipeg tonight have you seen the game ?
    I thought it was fantastic hockey a little chippy but i liked it 😀
    I really liked what Joe Morrow did in this game from a real life but also a fantasy perspective (1 Ast ,4SOG, 2Hit, 2Blks in 16:40) can you see something developing here in winnipeg ?
    PS: Connor was outstanding you are pounding the table for him for a long long time 🙂

    • Viz

      Viz says:
      (link)

      @Saints: It was great, that is the matchup that I want to see most in the playoffs. I don’t see much in Morrow honestly. Maybe for the short term, but long term he seems destined to be a bottom pair guy or extra. With Trouba on the verge of returning, that’ll hurt his value now, and they have some good defensemen coming up the pipeline, Tucker Poolman first among them. Dream situation for Connor to be in this year, hopefully he keeps building.
