It’s about time that I update my hold/stream list. In this version, I included all goalies I would use or stream instead of assuming to hold the starting goalies. Additionally, for injured players, I am assuming that they are healthy / worth stashing on an IR spot. I’ll add a select few comments in here, but if you have any specific questions, please ask them in the comments section. Let’s get to it!
ANAHEIM DUCKS
Hold: Getzlaf, Terry, Henrique, Shattenkirk, Gibson
Stream: Zegras, Rakell, Lindholm, Drysdale, Fowler
This might be a disservice to Cam Fowler, who is off to a great start in points, but I’m not buying all the way yet. No problem with holding him though, and I prefer him to Lindholm and Drysdale.
ARIZONA COYOTES
Hold: None
Stream: Keller, Crouse, Chychrun, Gostisbehere
BOSTON BRUINS
Hold: Marchand, Pastrnak, Bergeron, Hall, McAvoy, Swayman, Ullmark
Stream: Coyle, C.Smith, DeBrusk, Coyle, Grzcelyk
Jeremy Swayman is dominating the crease at the moment, but I can see that swinging the other way at some point in the season. In other words, I’m being stubborn on Linus Ullmark because the upside of a Boston goalie is too high.
BUFFALO SABRES
Hold: Thompson, Olofsson, Dahlin
Stream: Skinner, Cozens, Tuch, Asplund, Mittelstadt, C. Miller
Tage Thompson has shown me enough that he has to be a hold.
CALGARY FLAMES
Hold: Lindholm, Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Mangiapane, Andersson, Markstrom
Stream: Monahan, Backlund, Coleman, Kylington, Vladar
Rasmus Andersson and Oliver Kylington are both on the fringe. I prefer Andersson because of the power play time.
CAROLINA HURRICANES
Hold: Aho, Svechnikov, Teravainen, Trocheck, DeAngelo, Andersen
Stream: Necas, Niederreiter, Staal, Jarvis, Kotkaniemi, Raanta
CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS
Hold: Kane, DeBrincat, Jones
Stream: Toews, Dach, Kubalik, Fleury
COLORADO AVALANCHE
Hold: Landeskog, Rantanen, MacKinnon, Kadri, Burakovsky, Makar, Toews, Girard, Kuemper
Stream: Compher, Byram
I downgraded Bowen Byram now that Makar, Girard, and Toews are all playing. He can change back to a hold fairly quickly though.
COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS
Hold: Bjorkstrand, Laine, Voracek, Jenner, Werenski, Merzlikins
Stream: Sillinger, Domi, Roslovic, Texier, Chinakhov, Bean, Korpisalo
Columbus having this many useful fantasy players is a massive surprise. Boone Jenner won’t sustain this goal rate, but with over three shots per game, I’m holding for the time being.
DALLAS STARS
Hold: Hintz, Benn, Seguin, Robertson, Klingberg, Heiskanen, Holtby
Stream: Pavelski, Radulov, Suter, Khudobin, Oettinger
I have no problem holding Joe Pavelski now that Robertson is back. I’m worried about the minutes being down, as well as the shot rate.
DETROIT RED WINGS
Hold: Larkin, Bertuzzi, Raymond, Seider
Stream: Fabbri, Suter, Hronek, Leddy, Greiss, Nedeljkovic
EDMONTON OILERS
Hold: McDavid, Draisaitl, RNH, Hyman, Puljujarvi, Barrie, Nurse, Bouchard, M. Smith
Stream: Yamamoto, Koskinen, Skinner
FLORIDA PANTHERS
Hold: Barkov, Huberdeau, Duclair, Bennett, Reinhart, Verhaeghe, Ekblad, Weegar, Forsling, Montour, Bobrovsky, Knight
Stream: Hornqvist, Vatrano, Tippett, Gudas
No strong opinion on any of the defensemen as holds besides Ekblad. Comes down to your team build.
LOS ANGELES KINGS
Hold: Kopitar, Arvidsson, Kempe, Iafallo, Doughty, Quick, Petersen
Stream: D. Brown, Danault
I can’t believe the start that Jonathan Quick is having. I’d hold for now, but don’t expect it to last either.
MINNESOTA WILD
Hold: Kaprizov, Fiala, Eriksson Ek, Foligno, Hartman, Zuccarello, Dumba, Talbot
Stream: Kahkonen, Goligoski, Spurgeon
I have no idea what has gotten into Ryan Hartman, and to a lesser degree, Marcus Foligno. The goal rate is unsustainable for Foligno especially, but the hits and PIM are insane. Hartman’s found shot volume out of nowhere and looks to be the guy who came out of nowhere to become a hold all season.
MONTREAL CANADIENS
Hold: Toffoli, Suzuki, Price
Stream: Gallagher, Caufield, Anderson, Dvorak, Petry, Allen
Finally pulling the plug on Jeff Petry. I just don’t get what happened at all.
NASHVILLE PREDATORS
Hold: Duchene, Forsberg, Granlund, Josi, Saros
Stream: Johansen, Jeannot
NEW JERSEY DEVILS
Hold: Hughes, Hischier, Hamilton, Blackwood
Stream: Zacha, Bratt, Tatar, Sherangovich, Mercer, Johnsson, Subban, Severson, Bernier
NEW YORK ISLANDERS
Hold: Barzal, Lee, Nelson, Sorokin, Varlamov
Stream: Palmieri, Beauvillier, Pageau, Bailey, Wahlstrom, Pulock
With the Islanders having a pile of home games stacked up, I would expect them to turn things around sooner than later. I bet one or two of the streamers end up holds, but hard to predict with.
NEW YORK RANGERS
Hold: Panarin, Zibanejad, Kreider, Strome, Fox, Shesterkin
Stream: Lafreniere, Kakko, Chytil, Goodrow, Trouba
Can’t remember such a top heavy team in a long time.
OTTAWA SENATORS
Hold: Tkachuk, Batherson, Chabot
Stream: Norris, Stutzle, C. Brown, Zub, Gustavsson
I’m not really sure why Tim Stutzle is off to such a poor start. I still love the talent long term, but I couldn’t hold him right now.
PHILADELPHIA FLYERS
Hold: Giroux, Couturier, Atkinson, Konecny, Ellis, Provorov, Hart
Stream: Farabee, Hayes, Brassard, JVR, Yandle, Ristolainen, M. Jones
After the top two forwards, the rest of the forwards are one jumbled pile. I prefer holding Cam Atkinson and Travis Konecny because of their shot rates, but it’s marginal.
PITTSBURGH PENGUINS
Hold: Crosby, Guentzel, Rust, Malkin, Letang, Jarry
Stream: Carter, Kapanen, Zucker, Rodrigues, DeSmith
ST. LOUIS BLUES
Hold: RoR, Perron, Buchnevich, Kyrou, Tarasenko, Faulk, Krug, Binnington
Stream: Saad, R. Thomas, Parayko
Why can’t you shoot the puck more Robert Thomas? If your league is points based or doesn’t include SOG, he’s an easy hold for those glorious assists.
SAN JOSE SHARKS
Hold: Meier, Couture, Hertl, Burns, Karlsson, Reimer
Stream: Labanc, Dahlen
SEATTLE KRAKEN
Hold: Schwartz, Eberle, McCann, Gourde, Giordano
Stream: Wennberg, Tanev, Dunn, Grubauer, Driedger
I would have never imagined that Seattle would have the worst goaltending in the league through this point in the season, but here we are. If you want to be stubborn with Philipp Grubauer, I understand it because expected goals wise, Seattle has been the 11th best team defensively. The problem is that Grubauer and Driedger have given up more than one goal above expected per game. Woof. They’re good enough to turn it around, but right now, it’s ugly.
TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING
Hold: Kucherov, Point, Stamkos, Killorn, Cirelli, Hedman, Vasilevskiy
Stream: Palat, Barre-Boulet, Sergachev, McDonagh
I honestly had no clue Alex Killorn was at a point per game until I did some digging for this post. While he’s due for some shooting regression, his bigger role due to injuries should help counteract that a bit.
TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS
Hold: Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares, Rielly, Campbell
Stream: Bunting, Spezza, Kerfoot, Sandin, Muzzin, Brodie, Mrazek
VANCOUVER CANUCKS
Hold: Pettersson, Boeser, Miller, Horvat, Garland, Hughes, Demko
Stream: Hoglander, OEL, Halak
A lot of this is stubbornness with these players. There’s too much of a track record for all of these holds for me to panic yet outside of Conor Garland, who has turned it around nicely lately with a ton of shots and more minutes.
VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS
Hold: Stone, Pacioretty, Marchessault, Stephenson, Pietrangelo, Theodore, Lehner
Stream: Dadonov, R. Smith, Karlsson, Roy, Brossoit
With Max Pacioretty set to return shortly, I’m buying Chandler Stephenson more than I was. I still don’t love him as a hold, but I think there’s just enough.
WASHINGTON CAPITALS
Hold: Ovechkin, Kuznetsov, Wilson, Backstrom, Oshie, Carlson, Samsonov, Vanecek
Stream: Sheary, Sprong, Orlov
I think both goalies have done enough to be held for the time being.
WINNIPEG JETS
Hold: Scheifele, Connor, Ehlers, Wheeler, Dubois, Copp, Morrissey, Schmidt, Pionk, Hellebuyck
Stream: Svechnikov, Lowry, Comrie
Three Point Challenge: We’ll do it for Wednesday’s games due to the schedule this week. Through the end of the month, we’ll go with last year’s top 10, and then in December we’ll change. That means no McDavid, Draisaitl, Marchand, Kane, Marner, Matthews, Rantanen, MacKinnon, Scheifele, and Crosby. Fungazi remains the only one on the leaderboard. I’ll go with Jake Guentzel against the Canucks.
That’s all for now guys. With it being Thanksgiving, there are no games on Thursday, so I’ll be back on Monday with a big recap of the weekend. As always, feel free to ask any questions, leave any comments, or give any suggestions below. Thanks for reading and enjoy your Thanksgiving, take care!
Awww yes love the updates
Love to hear it!
What about B Schenn for STL?
Thought I had him under streamer, my fault. He’s close for sure, can go either way, but the shots have been quite low
Hard to believe it will continue, but I gotta go Kadri for 3 pnt!
Sounds good!
Happy US thanksgiving Viz
In year 4 of a 5 year keeper before reset
15 team keep 5
G a pts +\- Pim ppp shp sog
W l sho gaa Sv% gs
I’m throwing in the towel and trying for a rebuild. No picks in first 8 rounds this year second year in a row, it has caught up with me
Wondering if I should move Nate
Got offered 1 2 3 next year and combo of Two of Zegras Raymond Stuelzle Oettinger
Already have 2 first rounders for next year…keepers right now are Nate Guentzel Huberdeau Herman Merz (we can only keep 1 goalie)
If Oettinger worked out I could flip Merz for another pick as Caden Primeau is best available on the wire
Thanks!
What does mean that you reset after year 5? I could use some clarification there.
I don’t think I’d do this trade in any combo though. Nate is just too good to not get a player back that’s near his caliber and never will be, as much as I like Zegras. Those picks are too late to get a player of that caliber either.
Reset means after next year keepers are wiped out and we start again like a redraft and then keep 5 again. So I’d be losing this year and next of Mackinnon
Gotcha, then I definitely wouldn’t do it, I’d be willing to sell some other parts, but not Nate. If anything, it would make more sense to sell him next year and get a pick that actually is in the top 5 rounds? If it was dynasty, I can see the case, but I’d try to be good next year
sweet these updates are great! my league is shallower then ur holds list as the lesser holds are probably on waivers. my worst forwards are Fiala, Raymond, Buch, Olofsson and Bertuzzi. How would you rank these forwards? I have a hard time picking which to put in my lineup on busy nights like tonight I have Fiala @NJ, Raymond + Bert vs Stl, Buch @ Det and Olofsson vs Boston and can only fit 2 of these in my RW spot. I need to drop one of these guys (at least) as I picked up Kane in case he comes back. My league having PIMS and hits makes Kane usually a top 20 player. Who would you drop slash at what point do I enter stream territory since my league is more shallow.
Thanks Viz 🙂 and JKJ if ur cruisin around out there
Hmm, I would have olofsson last in the group, as much as I like him I’d cut him in your format. I think I’d go fiala, bertuzzi, Buch, Raymond, olofsson? Margins are small here though. I’m skeptical of the sharks letting Kane come back, but I don’t blame you at all for stashing just in case
ya would not be surprised if Kane didnt return, but just in case! Thanks
Yeah worth the gamble for sure. Anytime my man!
Yo! Agreed with Viz…would rank them the same and also don’t blame you at all for stashing Kane. Elite when PIMs factor in.
aho @ SEA for 3 pt wed
Happy thanksgiving from north of the border. Still trying to work out my goaltending. I imagine that this will be a season long issue. I dropped Grubauer for Oettinger. Now Grubauer has reeled off two great starts in a row. He definitely has a stronger hold on the number 1 starters job than Oettinger. Oettinger has been great but I wonder what happens when Holtby is ready for his return. I also have reluctantly held onto Petry. But I am officially at the end of my rope. I like his hit/shots numbers. Ice time is great. But he hasnt gotten even a point in weeks.
Here are my best options for a replacement. FOWLER, R.ANDERSSON, E.BOUCHARD, DRYSDALE, FAULK. I Keep waiting for Petry to show any signs of life whatsoever, but i dont even think that he would fog up a mirror at this point.
I will add S.Durzi and B.Byrams names to the Petry replacement list. Looks like Durzi is the number 1 powerplay QB in LA right now.
Sorry for delay, been traveling… I think I grab Faulk and would lean towards getting Grubauer back, but can go either way. Worried about playing time for Oettinger
12 teamer with the regular 4 goalie stats plus goals against as a negative, h2h. got these (added cal petersen again, had dropped him for wedgewood): grubauer, cal petersen (didn’t think he’d end up on bad side of platoon obviously with how bad quick’s been for years now), ullmark (also doesn’t make sense that BOS paid this dude a bunch of money now barely start him), wedgewood (seems to have a job and his sv%’s are great basically all the time on bad team). min 4 starts per 7 day matchup. drop which of the 3 non grubauers (using 4 roster spots for goalies is a good way to lose all the non goalie stats), start 2 per day.
so far (and this latter part likely continues) wedgewood’s sv%’s are worth more too as he gets a LOT of shots against.
I think I’d still drop wedgewood with goals against as a negative, despite the save totals. I just see no upside with him where the other two can flip the platoon around and it wouldn’t be a surprise
currently using the swayman but Varlamov was dropped for bad play. Make the swap or is something up that I am unaware or that is making Varlamov stink. have a jolly weekend!
NYI in general haven’t taken well to being on the road for about 1.5 months. now home they’re out flunking corona tests in pretty good sized numbers. i doubt varlamov caused much if any of this. not sure which of swayman/varlamov i’d want though, as BOS’s given him far more starts than would’ve been expected (but of course same thing can happen to varlamov, difference that’s bad for varlamov is that sorokin has been assumed for years to be a top level goalie at some point, and BOS just signed ullmark for a lot of money for next few years)
good info joey joe I will flip a coin
Hold for now with the Isles not playing for a week due to covid
hi Viz
12 team h2h, for ROS.
GA -1, Sv 0.2, SO 3, W 5
Which 2 goalies – Peterson, Husso, Demko, Ullmark, Holtby, Quick
Big THANKS!
Hey Surfer dude!
This looks to reward volume very strongly, so I’d be looking at Demko for sure, and then I guess Holtby? Only guy I wouldn’t consider is Husso. You can make a case for Quick right now, although I think eventually that flips to a split slightly in Petersen’s favor.
Ok, thanks for that, helps me alot.
All the best!!
Hi again, sorry I didn’t make it very clear, it goes by average for the games played through the week – 1 game results, 2 0r 3 games added up and then divided.
Thanks again.
Ah okay, that is interesting, haven’t seen anything like that before. I’m slightly more inclined to go with Ullmark in this scenario, although it’ll be much higher variance if he’s getting only one start a week, maybe two. What I said before is the safer choice, but I kind of lean towards Holtby and Ullmark now.
Thanks again, and again, and again…
