And we’re back!  Reid and I look at a few different things around the league on this crucial day in the United States.  We start off with Columbus destroying the Canadiens (10 goals!) and the Rangers scoring 5 goals in 5 straight games.  Then we focus on individual issues with a pile of recent injuries, the red hot returns of Matt Murray and Rickard Rakell,  the top line in Washington changing plus whether or not the Colorado goaltending situation could see a changing of the guard.  We finish things up with the early season struggles of the Western Conference before making our picks for The Three Point Challenge.  All of that and more in the most recent episode of the Razzball Hockey Podcast.

Tuesday Streamers – Big ten game slate tonight making streaming less of a necessity but I’ll still give you my top three options.  Here goes nothing!

Pavel Buchnevich (5.4%) – Going back to the well here.  Any Ranger is worth streaming at the moment, especially in a home game against the Canucks who are in the second game of a back to back having lost 9 straight, 8 in a row in regulation.  Give me the Butcher tonight extending his point streak to 3.

Patrick Eaves (5.0%) – Another case of going back to the well.  He’s still on the first line in what should be a wide open affair with the Jets.

Mikko Rantanen (3.9%) – The former first round pick is up on the first line and gets a home matchup against the Coyotes.  Great spot

I’ll be back on Wednesday with my newest set of daily notes.  As always, feel free to ask any questions and leave any comments, including your Three Point Challenge pick, below.

Nice, talked about taking him myself. Good luck!

What do you do with a bum like Ryan Johansen? Wait it out? I guess he has 5 points in the 3 games Nash has won and 1 in the other 8 so this probably doesn’t help.

    • Quick Sycamore says:

@Fungazi: Drop him. I’ll pick him up.

I think you still have to hold tight, there’s too much talent there and the Preds are starting to give the top guys more minutes.

@Viz: turns out torts wasn’t wrong about this guy’s conditioning level. funny quote from torts the other night (STL-CLB game) where he calls out his whole team after foligno got his ass handed to him by reaves (best fighter left in NHL now), “you know what really crawls up my ass, that i gotta watch foligno of all people have to deal with that animal”

  3. Mr. Rickey says:

    Start Hellebuyck tonight (v. DAL)?

    • @Mr. Rickey: I dropped Lehner for Hellebuyck last week and decided to drop Hellboy for Lehner again yesterday, before it was too late. I think Hellebuyck will get better than he has been lately, but I can’t afford to wait that out.

Yeah, we are going to talk about goaltending strategy on the next pod but I’m never benching goalies this early in the week in head to head (unless I have too many starters obviously). The Jets are even money to win at home so it’s a decent start.

I’m looking for some roster advice. My team is in first place and winning by big margins so far. Here’s the deal, Backes has returned and E. Kane seems close. Both are stashed on my IR and I’ll need to drop to activate or come up with 2 for 1 trade. I am admittedly bad at trading. Is anyone droppable? Any players I should target in trade? Thanks in advance for any help/ideas!

W Benn, Hall, Gallagher, Ehlers, E. Kane (IR), Backes (IR)

    G Rask, Bobrovsky, Hellebuyck

@distant_station: Man, your team is stacked for a 14 team league. I don’t think any of those guys are droppable. I guess Bennett is the closest thing to it but I still like him plenty in a 14 teamer. I would say your best option is to try and get an upgrade on Pietrangelo by shipping out him and somebody else for an upgrade. You definitely need to try and 2 for 1.

        @Viz: hmmmm
Pietrangelo & either Bennett or JT Miller for OEL or Yandle ?

@distant_station: If you can do it for OEL I’d do it with any of the forwards. I would rank them Miller, Wennberg, Bennett right now so I’d try whatever it takes. For Yandle, it’s closer but I’d do it with Bennett for sure

20 team dynasty fiala sent down, it’s yahoo so i’ll have to wait for the NA tag. gotta drop one NA guy to make room, has to have at least 9 PIT players at all times, hits/blocks/faceoffs/PPP/SHP
    C (4) malkin/crosby/couture (what the hell’s up with him)/turris/girgensons (streamer)
    LW kunitz/pouliot/c.wilson (streamer)/burakovsky/fabbri
    RW parenteau/hornqvist/larkin/gagner (streamer)/fiala
    D letang/maata/orpik/chychrun/benn (streamer)/irwin (streamer)
    G murray/fleury
    IR/IR+ hanzal/jagr/comeau/stone (ARI)/d.pouliot
    NA honka/barbashev/t.meier/m.mcleod/jarry
jarry might be a good backup later when fleury gets traded. wasn’t long ago jarry/murray were ranked pretty close to each other, and i read somewhere that last year jarry did pretty well in minors. i dropped l.brown for mcleod, he seems much more likely to get those extra stats, same for barbashev (and STL’s forwards aren’t exactly inspiring any kind of confidence for a while, maybe captain change isn’t sitting well). honka might be the weak link, he appears offensive mostly type D man (chychrun both sides)

    • Viz

      Viz says:
      (link)

@Aubrey Plaza’s Pillow: My first thought is to just cut Jarry anyways but it does have extra appeal being a Penguins goalie. I think it comes down to him or Honka and it depends on what position you’re looking for going for and whether or not the added benefit of being a Pen does enough for Jarry.

Whoah. Raanta gets the start tonight. I did not see that coming. I thought maybe he would get one of the BTB later this week.

    • Viz

      Viz says:

@Scott: I think it’s a very smart move given how poor the Canucks are playing. Let Raanta get the easy game and save Hank for tougher matchups

Hellboy, Mason, or Pickard tonight, Viz?

      Pickard
good luck on Butcher! I’m streaming him most places
I don’t think that’s the case because Niemi just had a run of 4 starts himself, just the flow of things
Yes, I’d hold given there is only 3 games tomorrow.

  11. Scott says:
    (link)

I’m going out on a limb and say Pavel Buchnevich.

  12. Scott says:
    (link)

Second start in a row for Lehtonen. Is Niemi becoming the backup?

    • Cheese Eating Surrender Monkey says:
      (link)

@Scott: they do that from time to time, but it’s been years now and they both end up with similar amounts of starts.

  13. Scott says:

Reinhart takes on Ottawa tomorrow at home. So, keep him for now?

  14. Matt says:

    3 Point: Connor McJesus.

I hope Hellebuyck can blank Dallas. I own him everywhere and he is available where I don’t.

@Matt: Good luck! It’s not the best spot for that but I still have plenty of faith in Hellboy.

I’ll pick McDavid tonight… would be fun if he showed up Crosby ;)… I like to pick with my heart haha

    • Viz

Haha that would be funny… My first thought is that it’s Crosby who shows him up but you never know. Your heart worked with Marner so might as well go with it again!

  16. Veritas says:

I’m picking Taylor Hall for the 3 point challenge. His shot rate is constant. I’m sure he’s about to have a great game, and what better rival than Carolina to do it.

  17. Quick Sycamore says:

    Klingberg for 3 points tonight
