Hey everyone!  Reid and I are back and after a quick review of something being thrown on the field at the Bills game, we start looking at a bunch of different things around the league that happened over the past five days.  Devan Dubnyk piling up shutouts, Tuukka Rask winning every game and the goalie situations for the Islanders and Kings are the focus between the pipes.  Offensively, Jakub Voracek and Colton Sceviour get the most discussion in the early going while Shea Weber‘s brilliant start and the mishandling of a few defensemen covers our blue line talk.  We look at a few teams in the early going, notably the Wild and Rangers, who are off to blazing starts.  Around the 45 minute mark, we hit on Marcus Johansson before we look at teams who are dominating or struggling in the possession side of things, mostly looking at Dallas and Nashville struggling.  After that, we close things up with our picks for The Three Point Challenge in Tuesday night’s games.  All of that and more in the latest edition of the Razzball Hockey Podcast!

Tuesday Streamers – Tonight is a massive slate with 12 games on the docket.  Odds are you won’t need guys to stream but in case you do, here are my top 3 options:

Benoit Pouliot (3.5%) – While he only has 4 points in the early going, I think we see a strong effort tonight against a dismal Leafs defense.  Benny is on the second power play unit and the minutes have been steadily increasing.

Alexander Wennberg (8.9%) – With 7 points in 7 games, I’m not sure why he’s so widely available.  A matchup with the struggling Stars is a good spot to take advantage of right now.

Colton Sceviour (0.0%) – Okay, I’ll bite.  With him on the second line and power play unit due to injuries, I’ll take my chances with him in deep leagues tonight.

I’ll be back with daily notes on Wednesday morning.  As always, feel free to ask any questions or leave any comments below; please leave your picks for the Three Point Challenge below.  Take care!

Awesome podcast! Heard you speaking about Greis. He is available and so is Lehner in our 8 team league. W=3 GA =-3 SV=.4
We are allowed four goalies and I have
    1. Bishop
    2. Luongo
    3. Rinne
    4. Vasilevisky

Should I try to trade one of these guys and pick up one of those guys on the wire?

Thanks! Man this tough. I would honestly be willing to move any of these guys for the right price but it depends what you’re getting. My first thought was to try and sell Bishop since he was the #1 player last season but now Vasilevskiy is taking 25-30 starts. His slow start may hurt his value. Rinne has started poorly but he’s starting virtually every game for the Preds right now, the other two have been great when they’ve started. Idk, I can’t really give you a concrete answer, more that if you give me some trade ideas or proposals I can give you my thoughts.

I will do some research and see if I can find some trade options. Who would you pick up out of Lehner and Greis?

@Man Of Steel: Sounds good. I would take the chance with Greiss hoping that they roll him or trade Halak.

Looks like Rakell is about to be activated but will play mostly on the third line and second power play. Is he worth keeping in a 12 team league? Can he improve on the 40 pts from last year?

I’ve been holding him but there’s some decent options on the waiver wire (Sceviour, Marchesseault, Cadrio, Johannson, Wennberg, Stastny, etc).

    • Viz

He could slightly improve but even still, I would definitely drop him for one of Marchessault or Johansson. Those guys have a much higher ceiling and they’re always producing at a high level. I’d lean Marchessault right now.

Hey Viz! Great podcast, keep them comin!!

Who would you start Allen @NYR or Bobrovsky vs Dal?

    • Viz

      Viz says:
      (link)

@Worlds First Analrapist: Thanks a lot! Man, that’s tough. I think I’d lean Bob; the Jackets are actually more likely to win based on betting lines and the Rangers lead the league in goals per game. Bob did just shutout Dallas and while I don’t expect a repeat of that, he’s playing extremely well right now.

      • Worlds First Analrapist says:

@Viz: Nice! I completely agree with you, phew. I want to see my Rangers dominate the Blues tonight!

          Viz says:
          (link)

@Worlds First Analrapist: I mean, it’s very marginal either way but with the way the Rangers are playing, as we talked about on the podcast, I lean towards Bob. Good luck to them! My brother is a big Rangers fan so I root for them most of the time when they aren’t playing the Sabres.

Would you lose Frederick Andersen for Budaj, Markstrom, Nilsson, Miller, Mason or Grubauer?

    • Viz

      Viz says:
      (link)

@ashtray: I would for Budaj right now.

      • ashtray says:
        (link)

@Viz: Budaj is the one guy on waivers. Is there another you’d take over Andersen if I can’t get him?

        • Viz

          Viz says:
          (link)

@ashtray: are you looking for volume or the best starts? If it’s volume, I’d hold Andersen unless you get Budaj. Otherwise, I think I’d go Miller? Him or mason but mason is on a bit of a downswing

  5. Jensen says:
    (link)

Are you holding Drouin in a 10 teamer? I am in 1st place so I have a little room on my roster to hold and see if he can get hot.

    • Viz

      Viz says:
      (link)

@Jensen: yes I would, he’s shooting at an extremely high rate, career high by a mile, and 5 points in 9 games isn’t a bad enough stretch to worry about.

    10 team 5 keeper H2H
G A SHOT STP HIT BLK PIM

    His Pavelski for my Simmonds?

Simmonds is out playing Pavelski on our player rater 17 to 13 but Pavelski did finish ahead of Wayne last season. The only thing holding me back is the PIM. My team is strong there, but its also an inconsistent category and having more guys that help their ups my chance of getting them in a given matchup. Am I crazy?

    • Ben says:
      (link)

      @Ben:

I would have Pavelski, Ovie, Benn, OEL, and Holtby. It is enticing but man I love me some Wayne Simmonds!

    • Viz

      Viz says:
      (link)

@Ben: man this is so close either way with hits added. I would lean towards adding Pavelski but i would not blame you either way, they’re both studs in any format but especially yours. Are you able to stream at all? Being able to stream hits and PIM if necessary at the end of weeks would tempt me to do it more

      • Ben says:
        (link)

        @Viz:
I do get 7 transactions a week and use them all to stream pretty much every week.

        • Ben says:
          (link)

@Ben: Wayne is 4 years younger.

          • Viz

            Viz says:
            (link)

This is razor thin either way, I don’t think you can make a mistake, you just need to decide how you want your team build going forward.

            • Ben says:
              (link)

              @Viz: thanks man!

I like JVR for a bounce back game with 3 points.
How about a 5 point challenge tonight. I think McDavid is going to crush the leafs. The only time McDavid played the leafs (in Edmonton) he had 5 points. Now this is his first NHL game at the ACC, he was a huge leaf fan going up, and all these Toronto area superstars love shredding the leafs at the acc. Im going to say he’ll put up 5 again tonight.

    • Viz

      Viz says:
      (link)

@Quick Sycamore: that’s a pretty nice call actually, I could see JVR having a big game in this matchup. Haha I won’t put anything past McDavid

      • Quick Sycamore says:

@Viz: Boy was I wrong. What a waste of hype lol
