Happy New Years everyone!  Reid and I are back and after taking a few minutes to talk about our Bills finally making the playoffs, we discuss a lot of things going on in the hockey world.  We start with a massive injury rundown and the fantasy repercussions before discussing the World Juniors, how USA vs Canada would go in the Olympics if NHL’ers were playing, and many other things before making our picks for The Three Point Challenge on Thursday’s games.  Be sure to make your picks in the comments section below!

    Hey guys,
Which 2 goalies do you start tonight?
    Dubnyk vs BUF
    [email protected]
    Hutton vs VGk
Also, would you start R.Ellis over OEL right now? They match up against each other tonight.
    Thanks

@JJ: hmmm. Well, Dubnyk is automatic. Gibson versus Hutton depends if you want better stats or a win. Hutton is a bigger favorite than Gibson in the betting markets but that may be giving a bit too much credit to Edmonton. Also, Vegas is hotter than hell. I’d lean towards sitting Hutton but I don’t feel good about it; just don’t sit Dubnyk.

I would play Ellis, yes. The matchup is as good as it gets for Ellis and almost as bad as it gets for OEL (only good thing is they’re at home). I’d expect Ellis to end the game with a plus rating and a decent chance at a point.

Great work guys!! Keeper forever league 12 team. I’m leading in PIM at this point. Trade offer to me…I’d get Josi for my Buff. Is Josi THAT much better long term. Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

@Ian: Thanks, appreciate it! I don’t think it’s a massive win but I prefer Josi in a keeper. Josi is 5 years younger than Buff which is the main factor. Byfuglien’s game doesn’t necessarily seem like one that will last as he gets older either. They’re super close this year and depends on the categories you need. Given that you’re already winning PIM, I think this will help a bit this year, and it should get increasingly better as years go forward. I’d make the trade.

@Viz: Sounds great..thanks! I will. Forgot to mention that I’m out of the running this year anyway but I’m building with guys like Mantha Horvat Ehlers Keller Aho Lehner and Saros.

Im gonna go with Tyler Seguin.

Loved the Junior coverage, tough loss for the states. Sweet shout out to tsn too. They have the best hockey coverage, junior or otherwise.

As for the olympics the Americans would be deadly this year if NHLers were going really sucks theyre not. I actually really feel bad for Stamkos. He should’ve been on the 2010 team, broke his leg for 2014 and when hes healthy and having a great season…no olympic participation. It was cool hearing your projected lineups for 2022. I think you guys should do that for the other major countries(hockeywise) as well. Maybe do who youd have on the roster if NHLers were going this year and then who you think will be on the teams in 2022?

@Quick Sycamore: Sorry I meant maybe as a future podcast topic to give your projected olympic lineups.

@Quick Sycamore: Hey man, thanks for the feedback! Sweden is the best WJC team in a long time, that team is dominant. I am not upset that USA lost to them, they were incredible. Hopefully the Sabres can get Dahlin, haha.

That’s a really good point about Stamkos. Hopefully the NHL gets back into the Olympics and he’s still good enough at 31 years old to make it.

That’s a good idea, I like it! I’m thinking around the All-Star Break since the Olympics start not too long after that and we’ll need stuff to talk about.

          Would love it too 🙂
The junior talk was great as well. Have you figured out how the name of the Washington guy is ? 😀
