We have actual hockey to talk about!  After Reid gets me to voice my displeasure with the USMNT for a couple minutes, we get to some teams who have had hot starts, notably the Vegas Golden Knights.  After running down the list of surprises and disappointments, we zoom in and look at individual players who have stood out, positively or negatively, in the early going and how that’s impacting our fantasy decisions going forward.  We wrap things up with a preview of Thursday’s games and bring back The Three Point Challenge!  Be sure to make your picks in the comments section below.  All of that and more on the latest edition of the Razzball Hockey Podcast!

Thursday Streamers:

Mathieu Perreault (15.9%) – Still in the top six and second power play unit.  Nice spot against the Canucks tonight.

Thomas Vanek (13.6%) – Vanek is currently playing with the Sedins and on the first power play unit.  That’s enough for me to use him against a Winnipeg team giving up plenty of goals.

Mattias Janmark (0.7%) – With the Preds potentially missing Josi again, the second line for Dallas should be in a nicer spot than usual.  Janmark has scored in two straight games so I’m using him while he’s playing well.

Hay Viz couldnt listen to your podcast yet (but i will make sure to do it later).
But I have a general trade question. In my dynasty league (with Hits/Blocks/FOW) im thinking about trading away Voracek (for contract reasons) possible targets are: Schwartz, Zuccarello, Monahan. Do you think they are enough of a lateral move to pull the trigger ? If you do it Which is your prefered guy ? Thanks a lot 🙂

@Saints: No rush man, it’ll be there. I think all of these guys are a slight step back from Voracek, at least for the short term, but if I was doing it, it’s for Schwartz. The age is the reason for taking him over Zuccarello and Monahan is clearly the worst of the three right now with hits being included unless you desperately needed faceoff wins.

    Hi Viz,

I wanted to get your take on Andre Burakovsky. He was hyped up big time on a lot of sites as a breakout player but so far has 2 assists and 4 shots in 4 games which is about as exciting as watching paint dry. I know you ranked him as a flier outside the top 200 so you weren’t high on him but would you hold in 12ers or turf him? It’s early so that’s why I’m being patient so far.

    Thanks,

    Brad

@Brad: Hey Brad. I’d probably dump him right now. He’s just a guy who never seems to find consistency in his game. I’m sure he’ll have a hot streak a couple times this year where he gets 8 points in 8 games or something along those lines, but then he’ll back it up by being cold. As long as you’re not severely limited in terms of moves, I would replace him.

Which one stays on the bench tonight (assuming they all start in the real world):

    Bishop
    Raanta
    Lehner

@Mr. Rickey: I’d probably sit Lehner. Right now, Bishop is a must-start in all formats. I actually feel good about Arizona bouncing back and winning against Detroit while the Sabres are the biggest betting underdog of the night. I do feel good about them coming out strong in their first game of a West Coast trip but the spot is just better for Raanta. If I see one of them isn’t starting, I’ll let you know, but I have to assume Raanta is the only one who might sit.

Did you guys lose your opening pod theme song?

    • Viz

      Viz says:

@Fungazi: Yes we did. I’m trying to find a way to recover it through an already posted episode but the USB drive that I saved it on can’t be read on a computer for some reason. Nothing looks wrong with it either. Part of me doesn’t mind that we get right into things and people don’t have to waste their time with the song, but then again people can always skip forward and I thought I did a pretty good job on the song so it sucks a bit.

@Viz: Ah, that sucks, I thought it was better than the original actually.

Hatrick Laine for the 3 pnt!

@Fungazi: Thanks, I appreciate it. One of these days I’ll try to recover it again.

Good call, nice spot for him tonight. Good luck!

  7. G 3, A 2, PIM 0.5, PPG 2, PPA 1, SOG 0.5, HIT 1, DEF 0.5. I have 3 D-man slots & 3 on my team; Weber, Hamilton & Letang. Someone cut Duncan Keith loose in our 10 teamer. Would have to drop a low hanging fruit to get him; Zetterberg, Niederreiter or Hischier. I hardly ever have a full offense and an open defense spot, so with Granlund on IR, I have been streaming offense, but I can scoop up Keith and drop one of those guys I mentioned when Granlund returns. What do you think Viz? You said he gets tons of assists, but average everything else. Don’t worry about it unless one of my 3 D-men goes down?

    • Viz

      Viz says:
      (link)

@madden_curser: I think I just leave him out there. Someone else will grab him, at least they should, but I don’t think he’s better than what you have. The shot rate is nice for a defenseman too but he’s so bad at hits which matters a fair amount in this format and the PIM aren’t there either. My first thought is I prefer to keep streaming forwards instead. The only potential value I can see is grabbing him and trading one of your D to get a forward upgrade but it’s probably not worth it.

    Hi Viz,

My goalies aren’t doing too hot. I was thinking of offering up Marchand up for one. What kind of goalie would I be looking at for a return? Is Bob in the right range?

    • Viz

      Viz says:
      (link)

@luvpho: Hey luvpho, what goalies do you have again? If you are moving Marchand, you need to get a top guy back for sure (Holtby, Bob, Murray, Price, maybe Dubnyk)

yo homie would you trade mccavoy provrrov Orlov for green? man I’m hoping OEL has a turn around this year

      @Shitwolf:

after seeing him out up another 2 assists so far I swapped for Orlov I doubt anyone in my league goes for him anyway since he hasn’t done poop yet… thanks mannnnnnn

@Shitwolf: Yeah I’m good with this. With that level of guy on the wire, might as well play the hot hand.
