As always, Reid joins me to start our trade deadline previews.  We open the podcast at looking at the latest injuries and suspensions around the league with the focal points being Edmonton with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins out, Brad Marchand‘s vicious elbow to Marcus Johansson, and Jonathan Quick skipping the All-Star game and getting the automatic one game suspension for it.  After that, the Atlantic Division is the first division we cover for the trade deadline.  What are the buyers at the top of the division looking for?  What will Mike Green and Evander Kane return in a trade?  Will Montreal or Ottawa move their star wingers?  It is a thorough in-depth conversation breaking down every team’s current and long-term situation.  From there, we make Three Point Challenge picks for Thursday.  Make your pick below.  All of that and more on the latest edition of the Razzball Hockey Podcast!

Add Neiderreiter, drop Marner? I lead my league in hits, shots, goals, +/-. I’m mid-pack in A & PPP.

If Nino stays healthy, will he get PP1 time?

@Tmcd: Hmm, this is close because I’m not sure Nino will be better for what you specifically need. I like him better in general but for assists, Marner is probably a better source. Nino could get PP1 time, truth is it really doesn’t matter because Minnesota splits their time pretty evenly between the two units. Long story short, I prefer Nino in a vacuum but if you are looking to improve in A, I don’t think this does that, so I’d hold.

@Saints: Smart man, good luck! I have a feeling that the notes tonight are going to take me an eternity with all of the impending goals that are going to be scored haha

Hay viz its late but i finished the pod. Maybe you read it
I really disagree with you and Reid on the red wings situation. If they have so many bad contracts in the books for the next 2-3 years (i havent double checked but i trust you) i would just suck it up and let these contracts expire with the current weak roster i cant see another chance for them getting back to relevance other than suck for 2-3 years build a prospect pool and than attack without those contracts if you use assets to clear the books you have clear books but no talent. I dont think thats the right way for them.

Otherwise i really liked your pod and im looking forward to the next. Im really interested what florida does im still a bit of a reimer believer but his time winds down thats for sure.

@Saints: First off, thanks as always, and I’m with you on Florida.

So here’s my thing with Detroit. I think they should go that route you talked about, but I do think there’s a chance that they decide to go the route we discussed because they never have embraced a rebuild. I 100% agree that just adding as many assets as possible is the best route, but I do have some doubt that Holland does that. I think the guys with 1 year left are definitely there, but perhaps they’ll consider trying to get rid of the 2-3 year contract guys.
