Hey all, and welcome to week seven of the NHL season! This week features a slightly more open-ended schedule Monday through Thursday with just about half the league playing each night. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are a different story. Friday includes only two games (Buffalo @ Anaheim and Winnipeg @ Pittsburgh), Saturday is very busy and has all but two teams (Anaheim and Toronto) playing, and Sunday has just a single game on the slate (Utah @ Toronto). So take a look ahead at the schedule and plan your streaming pickups accordingly based on your roster!

Also, I’ve been wanting to have the weekly schedule presented in a more digestible format for this article so I’m debuting my initial attempt at that this week below. Let me know what you guys think about it and whether you like it, hate it, or just think it needs improvements in the comments below!

  • Technically the only nights that aren’t “off-nights” in the league this week are Thursday and Saturday, but as I mentioned above Monday through Wednesday are still fairly busy so just be aware of that.
  • There are only three teams playing the league maximum of 4 games this week which are, in order (adjusted by strength of schedule and opponent): Utah, San Jose, and Edmonton.
  • There is however a larger group of teams only playing 3 games but who also have great streaming schedules. Among those the top few adjusted by strength of schedule are: Anaheim, Buffalo, Dallas, Winnipeg, and Philly.
  • The teams who play the league low of 2 games and who we’d like to avoid streaming this week are: Nashville, Seattle, L.A., New Jersey, Vancouver, and Montreal.

**Toronto also only plays 2 games this week but they actually play only on off-nights including the only game on Sunday. As such, I think they’re actually an OK stream if you want to make a pickup of a Toronto player on Wednesday for the Wed/Sun starts.**

Top Streaming Targets for the Week:

  • I feel like I’ve been saying this every week lately but unfortunately the top streaming teams this week don’t have a ton of great options that are likely readily available in most leagues. Edmonton has very little on the waiver wire worth grabbing. Ditto for Utah and San Jose at the moment but I would go ahead and double check in your own league for the following two players: William Eklund – LW (currently 56% rostered on ESPN) and Macklin Celebrini – C (58% rostered and just came back from injury so he may have been dropped in your league). Beyond that there’s just not a ton of players on either Utah or Edmonton that I’m rushing out to grab. I think you’d generally be better served looking to some of the 3 game teams this week for production – in particular Dallas and Winnipeg.
  • So the above being said, my top pickup for the week is Mason Marchment – LW (38% rostered on ESPN). Dallas has a nice schedule to begin the week and Marchment (much like Martinook last week) has been practically ablaze over the last three games with 4 goals and 5 assists. He’s averaging a respectable 15:42 average TOI this season playing winger on the second full-strength line with Duchene and Seguin and is seeing time on the 2nd PP unit as well. I’d alternatively look for Logan Stankoven – RW (31% rostered) if Marchement is already scooped this week or rostered. If you have a full roster for Saturday already I’d recommend picking up a Dallas player for the great Monday/Wednesday matchups and then pivot to a Utah stream for their Thursday/Sunday schedule to maximize the use of your roster slot.
  • My final pickup of the week is slightly less rostered and a bit more of a dart throw in terms of production but I really want a piece of this amazing Anaheim schedule of three games all on off-nights. With Mason McTavish heading to IR as of yesterday the Ducks are going to need to lean even more heavily on Troy Terry – RW (as of the time of writing 21% rostered on ESPN and 19% on Yahoo) for offensive production. He’s averaging 17:59 TOI on the season but this has been steadily creeping up into the 19-20+ minute range over the past handful of games with McTavish sidelined. He’s also on the top line and PP1 so there’s no shortage of opportunity albeit on a weaker Ducks offense. I don’t necessarily think he’ll be winning the week for you but I do think he’s good for at least 2-3 points in Anaheim’s three games this week and you can even drop him after Friday to stream either a Saturday or Sunday start as well.

*I aso mentioned Winnipeg as well for their strength of schedule. All the usual names that I’ve touched on in past posts apply this week for pickups (Vilardi, Perfetti, Namestnikov, Niederreiter, etc…)  but as they’ve been off to such a hot start (that is to say a historically hot start) at this point I’d guess that in most leagues a lot of these guys are now rostered and held. Worth a peek to see what’s available in your league still though!*

That’s all for this week. As always, please leave any schedule/streaming/etc questions in the comments below and also please leave some feedback on the new schedule table and let me know what you guys think of it! Good luck this week!
