I liked the acquisition of Mason Marchment by the Kraken in the summer, but for whatever reason, it just wasn’t working out. They shipped him to Columbus, and Marchment looks like the player we are used to from his time with Dallas. Marchment scored two power play goals on Monday, putting four shots on goal. He has three goals in two games with Columbus now, and he’s gone right onto the top line with Fantilli and Marchenko. I don’t expect him to get to hold status, but Marchment is an elite streamer while he’s on fire. Let’s take a look at what else happened over the last two nights. Also, apologies for not having my usual Monday post, but I am back home now and will be on my usual schedule going forward.
Sunday’s Games
Ethen Frank – Two goals on three shots, both assisted by Dylan Strome. Frank has played his way onto the deep league radar, but he’s only a bottom end streamer for 12’ers.
Andrew Copp – Two assists with two shots. Copp is on an okay run right now, but he’s still in bottom end streamer range. The shot rate is very poor.
Emmitt Finnie – Two assists with a shot. Finnie is still on the top line, but he isn’t doing much with it.
Mackenzie Blackwood – 28 saves on 29 shots in the 5-1 win over the Wild. What a performance from the Avs to destroy the Wild in Minnesota while they were on a heater. Blackwood has been fantastic and has certainly played his way onto the Olympic team.
Brock Nelson – Goal and two assists with two shots. Nelson has played his way onto the fringe with six goals in his last ten games.
Cale Makar – Goal and two assists with seven shots. He saw the Wild get Hughes and had to make a statement about who the best defenseman is.
Nathan MacKinnon – Two goals on four shots. He’s already at 30 goals and 31 assists on the season with a +45 rating. Just insane stuff from MacKinnon.
Gabriel Landeskog – Two assists with four shtos and two PIM. Landeskog moved onto the top line in this one, and played over 20 minutes. Real case for holding him again.
Valeri Nichushkin – Two assists with three shots. Val is on the fringe, although I lean towards holding just to have more pieces of the Colorado wagon.
Kyle Connor – Two goals on six shots, both assisted by Mark Scheifele. They willed the Jets into a comeback for a point, but times are ugly for the Jets right now. Thankfully, these two are delivering in fantasy.
Clayton Keller – Goal and an assist with two shots. The goals are going to keep coming in for Keller as he’s due for major positive regression.
Mikhail Sergachev – Two assists with two shots. The shooting percentage has dropped which is exactly why he’s behind last season’s pace. The assists are slightly improved though.
Dylan Guenther – Two assists with three shots. Very solid across the board for Guenther so far.
Ryan O’Reilly – Two assists with a shot. Borderline shocked to see RoR with 30 points on the season now. He has twelve points in his last ten games and even with a poor shot rate, RoR is on the fringe.
Justus Annunen – 16 saves on 17 shots in the 2-1 win over the Rangers. I have zero interest in streaming Annunen.
Juraj Slafkovsky – Two assists. Slaf has been a bit better lately, but I still have him in solid streamer range.
Oliver Kapanen – Goal and an assist with seven shots. Kapanen has been solid in his first full season, but a lot of his success is buoyed by shooting percentage. Middling streamer for now.
Ivan Demidov – Goal and an assist with two shots. The shot rate will have to jump for Demidov to turn into a fantasy superstar, but he’s well on his way to putting up a ton of points.
Sidney Crosby – Goal and an assist with two shots. Crosby passed Lemieux for the most points in Penguins history. He’s already up to 20 goals on the season. He never fails to amaze.
Rickard Rakell – Goal and an assist with four shots playing over 21 minutes. Rakell is on the fringe with a lean towards holding.
Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen – 26 saves on 27 shots in the 3-1 win over the Devils.  Jack Hughes scored in his return, but UPL shut the door down after that. The upside is there, but for now, Lyon is the #1.
Jake Oettinger – 27 saves on 28 shots in the 5-1 win over the Maple Leafs. The save percentage isn’t quite elite, but everything else is. He remains a top five goalie.
Jamie Benn – Goal and an assist with four shots. Admittedly, I didn’t see this game after the first period, but Benn played under 10 minutes and I don’t see any injury news. Very strange. He’s back in the bottom six, so Benn is stuck as a middling streamer.
Esa Lindell – Two assists playing over 25 minutes. Lindell is putting up a bunch of assists, and he’s a clear hold in blocks leagues. Otherwise, I think I leave him on the waiver wire.
Fabian Zetterlund – Two goals and an assist with three shots. He’s getting run with Stutzle and Tkachuk right now, with Zetterlund having six points in the last three games. Stream him while he’s a hot schmotato.
Drake Batherson – Goal and two assists. Batherson has been fantastic this season.
Dylan Cozens – Goal and two assists with two shots and twelve PIM. Cozens is an elite streamer with an argument for holding, but I still can’t get past him getting caved at even strength.
Claude Giroux – Goal and an assist. Solid streamer at this point in his career.
David Perron – Two assists with two shots. Same as Giroux, although I have a slight preference towards Giroux.
Charlie McAvoy – Goal and an assist with four shots. This was McAvoy’s first goal of the season, but the assists have been fantastic.
Tomas Hertl – Goal and two assists with five shots. With Eichel out, Hertl has been quite good. The shot rate is up a ton lately, which puts him on the fringe.
Noah Hanifin – Three assists with four shots. Hanifin hasn’t done much at all overall, but with Theodore out, he’s played pretty well. If you need short term help, I don’t hate grabbing him.
Mitch Marner – Goal and an assist with three shots. Marner being below two shots per game really damages his overall value, even being over a point per game.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins – Two goals and an assist. The top guys destroyed Vegas as Connor McDavid had 1+2, while Leon Draisaitl and Zach Hyman each had two points. RNH is over a point per game right now and needs to be held everywhere.
Monday’s Games
Darren Raddysh – Goal and two assists. This might sound insane, but Raddysh is a borderline top 10 defenseman now. He’s killing it at the moment.
Nikita Kucherov – Two assists with a shot. Business as usual for Kucherov.
Jake Guentzel – Two assists with a shot. I did think Guentzel was going to find another level in Tampa compared to Pitt, but he’s doing the same thing. That’s not a problem at all when your usual is 40+40.
Andrei Vasilevskiy – 23 saves on 24 shots in the 4-1 win over the Blues. Very good stuff from Vasilevskiy, which isn’t really a surprise, but nice to see that two seasons ago is the outlier.
Rodrigo Abols – Two assists with a shot. And there’s your annual Abols update!
Nikita Grebenkin – Goal and an assist with two shots. He’s shown very little so far and is nowhere near the fantasy radar.
Philipp Grubauer – 40 saves on 41 shots in the 3-1 win over the Ducks. Talk about stealing a game. Grubauer has shockingly bounced back with a .911 sv% on the season. I’m skeptical after four years of being bad, but Grubauer is worth monitoring again.
Jordan Eberle – Two goals. Nice bounce back from Eberle so far, but it only gets him into middling to solid streamer range.
Kappo Kakko – Two assists with two shots. Kakko has been poor this season after a strong start in Seattle last season. For now, he’s only a bottom end streamer.
Damon Severson – Two assists with three shots and four PIM. Don’t even think about it at this point in Severson’s career.
Jet Greaves – 23 saves on 24 shots in the 3-1 win over the Kings. Greaves hasn’t been quite as good as I hoped, but he’s still worth holding in almost all formats.
Three Point Challenge: We will do the challenge for Tuesday’s games as there’s a huge slate before the holiday break. You can’t select McDavid, MacKinnon, Celebrini, Draisaitl, Kucherov, Rantanen, Necas, Bedard, Robertson, Scheifele, Connor, Makar, or Boldy. Yay for a massive tie for 10th in points. I’ll go with Marner against the Sharks.
That’s all for now guys. With no games after Tuesday until Saturday, I will either have an update hold/stream list on Friday, or will be back on Monday with one. As always, feel free to ask any questions, leave any comments, or give any suggestions below. Thanks for reading, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone!
I don’t like the schedule this week. Seems like the whole matchup will basically be decided by today and Saturday. I have 4 or 5 guys DTD resting through the New Year. Maybe fantasy should just take this week off. Rant over.
