What’s up, Razzball hockey nerds!

I’m filling in for Viz this week, who’s doing some traveling.

Let’s start off by giving some love to Tanner Jeannot. At the time of writing this, the dude is still only 47% rostered on Yahoo despite being the #94 overall player in standard formats. He brings massive value in the hits category, clocking in as the #4 forward (and #5 player) in that regard. But he’s not your Clutterbuck or Reaves type who isn’t scoring any points. Nay, Jeannot has 17 G and 14 A in 51 GP this year. On Tuesday, Jeannot netted two more goals on 3 SOG, chipping in a +2 rating and 6 H, which is a badass freakin line in a standard format. Oh yeah! And if you’re a PIM-leaguer, Jeannot is elite there as well, with 87 on the year. All this from a 24-year-old I’d never heard of and who went undrafted, ultimately being signed by the Preds last year and appearing in 15 games. He’s an every day-er now, and I think it’s safe to say he’s found a very comfortable home in the NHL.

Here’s what stood out over the last couple days of action:

Monday’s Games

Josh Anderson: 2 G, 1 A, +2, 5 SOG, 4 H, 1 BLK. If you’ve read my stuff before, you know I have a favorite “metric”: BSH, which is just BLK+SOG+H. I get warm and fuzzy any time I see that number in the double digits on any given night, but when you get 10 BSH along with 3 PTS?!? Well, I’m full-on aroused at that point. The Habs are trending in a better direction with Marty St. Louis on the bench now…

David Pastrnak: 2 G, 1 A, +3, 1 PPP, 8 SOG, 1 H. He’s been rather up and down this year but is still kicking ass overall, averaging almost a perfect point-per-game pace. Def still an elite winger option in fantasy.

Teuvo Teravainen: 1 G, -1, 1 SOG, 1 BLK. Has scored a point in every game since returning to action about a couple weeks ago (7 PTS in 5 GP). Five of those points have been PP assists. Also has been shooting! Turbo is on his way to a *three fire emojis* second half.

Cole Caufield: 1 G, 2 A, +3, 2 SOG, 1 H. Don’t look now, but the Goal Caufield people reached for on draft day might finally be here. He’s got 5 G and 3 A in his last 6 GP. Ice time is good and his PPTOI is very good. Would add this kid short-term for sure, but I’m not even a little sold this pace keeps up ROS. Could, I suppose.

Patrice Bergeron: 1 G, 1 A, +3, 7 H, 2 BLK. No need to add any notes here. You know what you’ve got if you’ve got Bergeron.

Nathan MacKinnon: 1 G, -1, 1 PPP, 7 SOG, 1 H. Ditto.

Tyler Toffoli: 1 G, 2 SOG. That’s now 2 G in a Flames uni for Toffoli. Would like to see more ice time, though, so I’m still avoiding him.

Jared McCann: 1 G, -1, 8 SOG, 3 H. Love them SOG+H! I like McCann and might even love him on another team, but alas, the Kraken are very…meh.

Vincent Trocheck: 1 G, 1 A, +2, 5 SOG, 1 H. Per the usual, the SOG+H have been very good this year and he’s up to 35 PTS in 50 GP. Not spectacular but very solid given the peripherals that come with it. Even stronger if PIM and/or +/- factor in.

Mark Giordano: Speaking of boring Kraken, I was almost bored to death of Gio and had completely written him off as washed up and ready to hang up the skates for good. Now he’s gone and scored 11 PTS in his last 16 GP. I’m more than a little worried he gets traded and his value tanks, though, cuz it’s hard to imagine he would go anywhere that would utilize him in the same way. So, sell high if you’ve got him!

Taylor Hall: 3 A, +3, 2 PIM, 1 PPP, 3 SOG, 1 H. He ain’t what he used to be, with only 11 G and 25 A in 50 GP. He’s a little behind his ADP value (101 vs #111 rank) but it’s close enough.

Charlie McAvoy: 2 A, +2, 1 SOG, 3 H, 1 BLK. He’s D1 material but maybe not quite as sexy as I would have thought.

J.T. Miller: 2 A, 1 PPP, 4 SOG, 7 H, 1 BLK. Elite fantasy option, especially in categories leagues. Doubly-especially in FOW leagues.

Noah Hanifin: 1 A, 1 PPP, 1 SOG, 1 H. The Flames are…flaming hot, and Hanifin is pretty hot himself, with 1 G and 6 A in his last 9 GP. Has 3 PPP in that time, too. You could do worse!

Jeff Petry: 1 A, +2, 1 SOG, 1 H, 2 BLK. Petry is kinda cruisin again all of a sudden. Horrendously bad first half, but the second half is a new ballgame in fantasy. He’s got 2 G and 3 A in his last 4 GP, with good peripherals to boot. He’s a must-add in my book. I took him as my D1 on multiple teams and it’s only taken several months to see results!!! But seriously, the upside here is still borderline elite fantasy D-man production ROS. Especially in a categories league.

Neal Pionk: 1 A, +1, 2 SOG, 1 BLK. Like Petry, my pre-season expectations for Pionk were very high. He has mostly disappointed. Lately I’d even go so far as to say he’s been useless. You can hold and hope for better, but my patience is gone and I hold no more shares.

Johnny Gaudreau: 1 A, +1, 2 PIM, 2 SOG. Yeahhhhh you hit the mega jackpot drafting this guy. That year he went ham and almost scored 100 PTS is a lot like this year: his linemates are playing out of their minds. The 5on5 oiSH% is worrisome. It’s sitting at 13% right now. If you don’t know what that means, it’s the rate of goals his linemates are scoring at even-strength when he’s on the ice, and 13% is a very high mark relative to league average. I’m certainly not advocating for trying to trade Johnny Hockey or anything, but I am saying maybe don’t expect this again next year. I have no doubt he’ll be a great fantasy winger, I’m just already picturing the whacky ADP that will result from this madness.

Tuesday’s Games

Thomas Chabot: 2 G, 1 A, 1 PPP, 6 SOG, 2 BLK. Was ice cold before missing four games, but he bounced back in a big way in his first game since Feb. 13. I’m not sure he ever reaches the early hype he had all those years ago, but dude is still a find fantasy defender. Some of you might play in leagues that count ATOI, and there ain’t no one better for that category.

Patrik Laine: 2 G, +1, 4 SOG. Laine continues to unleash pure destruction upon anything in his path. No superlative can accurately describe what’s going on right now: since Jan. 30, he has 12 G and 6 A. Including a stretch of three straight games with 2 G. He had stretches like his in Winnipeg, but I never thought I’d see the day in boring ol’ Columbus where someone other than Rick Nash was doing this type of stuff. Remember that guy? Man he was fun. Laine’s fun too, when he actually feels like being a good hockey player instead of a famous one.

Logan Couture: 2 G, 1 PPP, 4 SOG, 1 H, 3 BLK. Still available in over a third of Yahoo leagues (62% rostered), Couture’s got 4 G and 1 A in his last 5 GP. Providing very strong SOG+H lately as well.

Rickard Rakell: 2 G, +1, 6 SOG, 1 H. Only 12% rostered right now despite being on a bender. Ricky Raks has 6 G in his last 7 GP. And like Couture, he’s cranking out the SOG+H.

Filip Forsberg: 1 G, 2 A, +1, 1 PPP, 1 SOG, 1 H, 1 BLK. Having a stellar year and I wish I had believed in him back on draft day.

Kevin Fiala: 1 G, 1 A, +1, 8 SOG, 1 BLK. The Fiala of late is the Fiala I figured we’d have been seeing all year. Better late than never, eh? Tons of points lately. Tons. Annoyingly only has 1 PPP in the last month, but the rest of the stuff is good. Shots are really picking up in the last week, which I want to see more of on a nightly basis.

Brent Burns: 1 G, 2 A, -1, 1 PPP, 6 SOG, 1 BLK. Dude is absolutely obliterating your +/- but is otherwise providing good value. Assists are coming in, PPP is coming in, shots are coming, and even the hits are back up to a decent enough rate.

Roman Josi: 1 G, 1 A, +1, 1 PPP, 4 SOG, 1 BLK. What needs to be said? Pretty much the best fantasy defender around.

Auston Matthews: 1 G, 2 A, +1, 11 SOG, 1 BLK. Eleven shots!!!

Vladimir Tarasenko: 1 G, +1, 2 SOG, 1 H. There were two Tarasenko camps on draft day: you took a late-ish stab or just avoided completely thinking his shoulder would fall off. I was in Camp 2, thus missing out on the current #58 (probably a little higher now actually) overall player. As a Blues fan, I can tell you I love this man with all my heart, and I’m very glad the will-we-trade-him drama is in the past.

Sam Bennett: 1 G, 2 PIM, 7 SOG, 7 H. Damn that is one beautiful banger line. A goal, 14 BSH, and 2 PIM. Delectable. Florida is so good lol.

Sam Reinhart: 1 G, 1 A, 1 PPP, 5 SOG, 2 H. Has anyone told you how good Florida is? He’s been everything and then some for those of you who believed playing for the Panthers would bring success. It’s brought a lot of success indeed.

Radko Gudas: 1 G, 1 SOG, 2 H, 3 BLK. Gotta love when Bang Daddy Radko scores a random ass goal. You own him for the hits and/or blocks but playing for Florida means you’ll luck into some points here and there.

Jared Spurgeon: 1 G, +1, 3 SOG, 2 BLK. He’s up to 5 PTS (3 PPP) in his last 5 GP. Not an elite fantasy defender, but def one worth holding, at least as long as he keeps QBing PP1.

Brady Tkachuk: 1 G, -3, 2 PIM, 1 PPP, 5 SOG, 3 H, 1 BLK. Yeah, yeah, he doesn’t score 30 goals a year, but he’ll finish with about 25 and the most insane amount of SOG+H you can imagine. Someday he’ll be the first player to record 300 SOG and 300 H in a single season. He’s paced for it before and is pacing for 298 SOG and 293 H right now.

Aaron Ekblad: 1 G, 6 SOG, 2 H, 1 BLK. Simple analysis here: he’s elite.

Jordan Kyrou: 1 A, 1 SOG. He’s cooled off considerably of late but is still damn near a point per game. Buy low? Maybe someone’s fed up.

Alrighty, hope you enjoyed my cameo appearance as your recapper of fantasy hockey action! Viz’ll be back for the next one. Take care out there. Feel free to leave questions/comments/concerns/complaints in the replies below!
