Sidney Crosby and Joe Vitale scored for the Penguins as they came away with a 2-1 win over Boston, their ninth straight victory. Tomas Vokoun made 31 saves in the win and only allowed Tyler Seguin’s 1oth goal of the season to Boston.
SPIN: Pittsburgh took over the top spot in the Eastern Conference even as Evgeni Malkin missed his fifth straight game. Defenseman Kris Letang wasn’t on the ice for the final two periods and his status is day-to-day with an unknown injury. And yet the Penguins still roll on.
Ottawa grounded the Winnipeg Jets 4-1 behind a pair of goals from Jakob Silfverberg. Robin Lehner made 25 saves in the win for the Senators. Kyle Turris scored on the power play for Ottawa and is starting to get hot with four points in his last two games.
SPIN: Turris is now worth getting off the waiver wire since he’s starting to find his groove. Lehner seems to be the go-to guy in goal for Ottawa while Craig Anderson is still recovering. Silfverberg is a guy who’ll score about every sixth game or so and is borderline roster-worthy.
Washington knocked off Buffalo 5-3. Five different Capitals scored in the win while Cody Hodgson potted a pair of goals for Buffalo in the loss.
SPIN: Buffalo is shuffling right out of the playoffs as they’ve won just once in their last seven games. Thomas Vanek picked up an assist to run his point streak nine games but hasn’t had games anywhere like he did in January. Jason Chimera broke through and finally scored his first goal of the season for the Capitals. Chimera scored 20 last season so he’s worth looking at to see if he can give your team a boost. Alex Ovechkin picked up his 11th goal of the season in the win and has shaken off his early-season blues.
Edmonton slipped past Nashville 3-2 and the Oilers have now won 3 of their last 4 games.
SPIN: Roman Josi had a goal and an assist for Nashville but isn’t consistent enough to start on a fantasy team. Jordan Eberle also had a goal and an assist and is also in the same boat. Goaltender Pekka Rinne actually completed a game after being yanked in the last two while Devan Dubnyk stopped 29 of 31 shots in the win.
