Matt Read’s hat trick was part of a seven-goal outburst as the Flyers roared back to life offensively and pummeled Florida 7-1 last night. Ilya Bryzgalov was the beneficiary of all the offense as he picked up his second win of the season.
Let’s take a look around the league and get you caught up on last night’s action.
Patrick Marleau registered his fourth consecutive two-goal game for the Sharks as they blanked Colorado 4-0. Backup goaltender Thomas Griess stopped all 24 Colorado shots for the shutout.
Marion Gaborik picked up two goals and two assists as the Rangers knocked off the Leafs 5-2. Toronto led 2-0 after a period but a four-goal third period turned the game for New York. Gaborik was one of five Rangers who finished the night with a +4 rating.
Chicago became the first team in the NHL to 10 points when they downed Columbus 3-2. Patrick Kane had two assists in the win and Corey Crawford is 4-0 this season. Crawford has allowed exactly two goals per game in each of his four wins.
St. Louis slipped by Dallas 4-3. David Perron scored twice in the second period to lift the Blues to 4-1 this season.
Calgary downed Edmonton 4-3 in the battle of Alberta. Lee Stempniak (G,2A) had a three-point night to fuel the Flames.
Corey Perry scored the only goal in the shootout as the Ducks downed Nashville 3-2. Daniel Winnik picked up his fifth goal of the season in the win.
Los Angeles doubled up Phoenix 4-2 in a rematch of last season’s Western Conference Finals. Anze Kopitar scored twice in his first action of the season as the Kings got their first win.
Stat of the Night
Wade Redden scored for the Blues in their win over Dallas. Redden’s goal was his first in the NHL since March 18, 2010 when he was a Ranger.
Stat of the Night II
The Predators are 0-3 in the shootout this season. No other team has lost more than one game in overtime or a shootout this season.
Stat of the Night III
The Phoenix Coyotes have allowed 20 goals this season, worst in the NHL. Not surprisingly they are 1-4-0. Only Washington (0-3-1) has fewer points.
