The Maple Leafs made the playoffs for the first time in nine seasons. With the talent they have, the Leafs should hopefully  start another run of several years in the playoffs. The last time they got in after missing out, they were in the playoffs for the next five seasons. Will Phil Kessel and company start another run and how can they help your team?

Team Name: Toronto Maple Leafs

Record: 26-17-5, 3rd in Northeast, Lost 4-3 to Boston in Eastern Conference Quarterfinals

Player of the Season: Kessel was the engine of the team with 20-32–52 this past season. Kessel would likely have posted a fifth-straight 30-goal season had the league played a full slate. He also set a career high in power play assists with 15 so he might  be embracing the role of a setup man on the power play.

Breakout of the Season: Nazem Kadri was THE breakout of the season with an 18-26–44 line including eight power play points and a +15 rating. Kadri wasn’t even drafted in most leagues and will certainly merit a middle-round pick in 2013-14.

Disappointment of the Season: Joffrey Lupul was the most disappointing part of the season for the Leafs. He broke his forearm practically out of the gate and then suffered a concussion too. Despite being banged up he still posted 18 points (11 goals) in 16 games. The disappointment is imagine how much more he could have done with a full season of health. He might go under the radar in drafts but look for him late.

Team Analysis: Toronto got it together and made the playoffs. They have a nice team and that includes guys like James van Riemsdyk, Tyler Bozak and blueliners Dion Phaneuf and Cody Franson. The Leafs look like they have a solid team for fantasy purposes and they would be a nice fit on your roster next season.

2013-2014 Story Lines: Realignment will have a big impact on the Leafs as they will now have to face Detroit as a divisional rival and they get to tangle with the Florida teams.

2013-2014 Fantasy Guys to Have: Kessel, Kadri, JVR, Franson, Phaneuf, Bozak,

Guys On the Fringe: Lupul, James Reimer
