The Canadiens won a tough division but fell apart in the playoffs. Montreal had plenty of value in fantasy in 2013 so let’s take a look back and see which players are Must-Habs for the coming season.

Team Name: Montreal Canadiens

Record: 29-14-5, 1st in Northeast, Lost 4-1 to Ottawa in Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.

Player of the Season: PK Subban put up a solid line of 11-27–38 with 26 points on the power play (7G, 19A) and was one of the more consistent Habs last season.

Breakout of the Season: Raphael Diaz burst onto the scene with 14 points on the blue line and eight of them came on the power play. Diaz missed nearly two months with injury but a healthy Diaz should be a solid contributor for the Canadiens on the blue line.

Disappointment of the Season: Goaltender Carey Price broke apart late in the season and completed his collapse in the playoffs. The cracks in the armor first appeared in early March when he allowed 12 goals in two games. It completely came apart when he allowed 33 goals in April and finished the month with a miserable .876 save percentage.

Team Analysis: The team was fourth in goals and fifth on the power play. So while they could light the lamp, the power play was their bread and butter. They were one of the more consistent teams in the league for the entire season. They were 13-4-3 after the end of February and went 16-10-2 over the final two months.

2013-2014 Story Lines: They look to be a team content to stand pat for now. Watch and see what they do when free agency opens July 5th.

2013-2014 Fantasy Guys to Have: Subban, Price, Max Pacioretty, Tomas Plekanec, Andrei Markov, Diaz,

Guys On the Fringe: Lars Eller (but he had a nice finishing kick), Michael Ryder (looked comfortable after midseason trade out of Dallas)
