The skies are sunny and the weather hot here at Razzball Headquarters in L.A., but a little farther up north the leaves are falling and Canadians are beginning to hoard maple syrup and beaver pelts… must mean hockey season’s a comin’!  To get out of my Canadian Military Obligation… Canada has a military?  I thought they gave us oil for protection?  Give me your lunch money and I won’t let those pesky Norwegians bother ya no more… So to get out of the army,  I — your loyal servant, Nick the Podcast Host, promised the grand pubah of Canada that I’d do a Razzball Hockey Preview and I did.  In fact, it’s the first time the Razzball Podcast got a panel together… in the studio!  Me and two podcasting up and comers, (read interns, not the 6-foot tall blonde/big breasted one I requested) Kyle Orvis and Sebastian Novais went through sleepers, reaches and maple syrup recipes for your draft!  It’s a great show!  It has a panel!  Anyway, here’s the Razzball Hockey podcast (with me):

Interested in helping with articles if you guys need it. Hockey is in my stereotypical Canadian blood. Football and baseball razzball supporter and I hate the CFL and love the NFL like Nick.

Any chance of an updated draft strategy post in the next few days? Feels like it’s been forever since I’ve done one of these? Thanks.

Don’t know where my other comment went. Any chance of getting an updated draft strategy going into the year (hopefully before 5 days, 6 hours from now)? Last one’s a little dusty.

    Oh, good, both of them.

    Jordan Eberle or Thomas Vanek?

Vanek. I like what he’s done and I’ve found him impressive since I saw him in Junior A.

Just listening to the podcast – Heatley is still in Minnesota, not San Jose – or did I miss something? Great work!

We can check on that and let you know.

@Andrew Nordmeier: don’t see it in iTunes and the podcast keeps stopping and starting from the beginning everytime I try to listen…

Any chance you’ll update this moving forward?

Also, was really hoping to get some updated drafting strategy before tonight since the season starts tomorrow.

        Cheers

I ran out of time on that one. Having a new son join the world Wednesday really throws a kink to the plans.

Got pick 16/16 in my draft tonight. Sweet, I know. I’m looking at going (preferably) Niemi/Quick on the Goalie-Goalie wrap around (not that kind), but if Niemi or Quick go higher than expected I’m thinking I want two of these four: Niemi, Quick, Bobrovsky, Howard. Thoughts? If I can only grab Bobrovsky and Howard, is it worth waiting for a Luongo/Holtby/Ward in the third? Disclaimer: Weird shizz can happen in this league so ADP could be a little unreliable.

    Thanks in advance!

I liked the idea of the GK wraparound especially in a large league. Pickings could be slim by that point and we all know how scarce the position is.

Bobrovsky and Howard would be a solid pair of GK to start with. Luongo, then Ward, then Holtby in that order for a 3rd GK but it would depend on the draft flow. Weirdness could happen. But did it?

@Andrew Nordmeier: This draft went DEEEEEEEP! I ended up grabbing Niemi and Howard on the wrap then Moulson/Marleau, Yandle/Pacioretty, D Brown/Huberdeau for the next 6 rounds. I waited too long to grab Tim Thomas as my backup goalie, but ended up stashing Enroth with my last pick in hope of a Ryan Miller trade. I’ll save you the time of looking at my roster. I’m sure you get enough of that, haha. Unlucky for me that this week I play the guy who drafted Grabovski late.

Do you think Krug is worth a pickup, since he usurped D Hamilton on the PP recently? Benches are shallow, so I’d have to drop McDonagh (only backup defender), Colin Wilson or Drew Shore.

Thanks in advance! Sorry to keep the comments going on an old post!

I’m surprised Niemi lasted that long and pairing him with Howard is a nice way to solidify the back line.

I’d hold off on Krug for now. I want to see how he performs at the NHL level since this is a guy with a total of 18 games of NHL experience. I prefer McDonagh at this point especially since he posts pretty solid plus-minus numbers too. He was a +13 last year and a +25 in his last full 82-game season. Keep Shore since Florida doesn’t seem to have many options on the offensive end of the rink.

@Andrew Nordmeier: Niemi only lasted because Quick was taken before him, which I was fine with!

            Thanks for the help!
