Henrik Lundqvist looked more like the goaltender we came to expect this season. Finally. Lundqvist turned aside all 22 shots he saw and picked up a 2-o win over Washington. John Moore and Ryan Callahan had the goals for the Rangers. Brad Richards assisted on both goals. Braden Holtby(34-36) gave up both goals in the second period when the Rangers outshot the Caps 21-6 and takes the loss.
It’s a refreshing change for the Rangers who were whipped by a combined 20-5 margin in their last three games. Rick Nash missed all three of those games dealing with concussion symptoms. His status is still up in the air at present. Michael Del Zotto (illness) was a late scratch on the Rangers’ blue line. Neither team converted on the power play in seven combined chances.
In the evening’s other game, Anaheim picked up its fifth win in a row by dousing the Calgary Flames 3-2. Victor Fasth made 33 saves and Teemu Selanne scored the first goal of his last season in the league for the Ducks. Dustin Penner and Kyle Palmieri were the other goal scorers for Anaheim. Jiri Hudler and Lee Stempniak lit the lamp in the loss.
It’s nice to see Selanne get on the board. The goal is the 676th of his career and the Ducks visit Phoenix next on Friday.
