Ondrej Pavelec stops Vladimir Sobotka in the shootout in this Winnipeg Sun photo.

David Backes scored and Alexander Steen scored twice but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Winnipeg Jets who posted a shootout win 4-3 last night.

Evander Kane, Olli Jokinen and Tobias Enstrom each scored for the Jets. Ondrej Pavelec got the win over Brian Elliott who was giving Jaroslav Halak the night off.

The game had a scary moment when rookie defenseman Jacob Trouba missed on a check and sent him head-first into the boards. He was taken off the ice like this and is going to miss an unknown amount of time. The good news is that he was waving to fans while being wheeled off the rink. Well, as best as you can wave for being strapped down to a gurney and having your head immobilized.

Anaheim bumped off Phoenix 3-2 in the shootout in Friday’s other game. Nick Bonino scored to force overtime with 2:02 left in regulation. Teemu Selanne scored for the second time in as many games for Anaheim. Rusty Klesla scored his first of the year and Antoine Vermette netted his second for the Coyotes.

The teams combined to go 0-for-10 on the man advantage. The Coyotes were 0-for-6. Anaheim is now 6-1-0 with the win and Jonas Hiller picked up the W in goal. Viktor Fasth was a late scratch as the backup goaltender after suffering a lower-body injury in practice the day before.
