Kari Lehtonen did just that yesterday in his first game in over a month. I’ll give him credit though, 3 Goals won’t hurt your team too bad and like I just said, it was his first game in a month. I warned you all in the preseason about the likelyhood of missed time for this guy with a girls name, HOWEVA, I’m still bullish. If he can keep up what he/she was doing for the year-and-a-half prior to the injury (2.44GAA/.917SV%) you’ve got a stud #2 or a borderline #1.
Mikkel Boedker – LW (Phx): Despite the 2 Goals last night Mikkel Nickel still only has 12 points in 37 games. As a former 8th overall draft pick though, the potential is real. It just won’t be real-ized this season…
Semyon Varlamov – G (Col): With Jiggy slipping a little (and being 50 years old) the door is wide open for Semy to regain his #1 Goalie spot. He’s 2-0 with a 2.00GAA and .920SV% in his last 2 starts, which is good, but remember we’re talking just 2 starts. The potential is in him to be a solid #2 in fantasy hockey, I just have some serious doubts of that ever happening…
Gabriel Landeskog – LW (Col): The eventual Calder Trophy runner-up (to Nugent-Hopkins) continues to produce. I believe he can keep this up the rest of this season, but the question remains; will he keep progressing or will he regress next year like teammates Matt Duchene and Paul Stastny? Only time will tell but if you’re in a re-draft league who cares? Just put your feet up and relax…
P.A. Parenteau – RW (NYI): Penis Anus Parenteau (as he’d liked to be called) is coasting right along despite my belief he would (and will) slow down. But for now, 30 Points in 34 games from a guy who you expect nothing from is like finding gravy on your In ‘n Out burger…
Evgeni Nabokov – G (NYI): Here’s what I wrote waaaay back in August: “I still think there is something here ability wise. Montoya and Poulin will probably end up splitting time this year (after DiPietro goes on his year long vacation in October), but I could see a scenario where the Islanders are better than people think and Nabokov ends up the starter due to his “experience”. Well the Islander’s aren’t better than anyone thought, but Nabokov is now the starter on the long island so I’ll just go ahead and take credit…
Kimmo Timonen – D (Phi): Hip hip hooray! Hip hip hooray! Hip hip….okay… I just felt like Finding Kimmo deserved praise for his 1st Goal of the season. Even for Kimmo Timonen it’s a tortise’s pace. I think he’ll still be able to match his total of 6 Goals from the last 2 seasons though, meaning he’s about to get red hot and net 5 in his last 45 games. I know it’s crazy to project that pace but sometimes you just have to go out on a limb…
Jordan Staal – C/LW (Pit): And Crosby’s still out and Staal keeps scoring. His LW eligibility (in Yahoo) makes him even more valuable so check your waiver wire (only 71% owned) and pick him up if you can…
Nazem Kadri – C (Tor): I was surprised to see that this youngster was born in Canada. Not just Canada, but London, Ontario Canada. His first name sounds like something World War 2 soldiers used to describe a gathering of Nazi’s…
Eric Staal – C (Car): I’ve gotta admit I’m completely infatuated with Eric Staal right now. Prior to last nights 2G/1A performance the “most talented” Staal had gone 6 games without a point. I guess it’s kinda like watching a car wreck (sigh)…
Michael Cammalleri – LW (Mon): Another Goal last night and Cam-Cam might finally be heating up. I preached the buy-low gospel a few weeks ago for most of the big guns in Montreal, and I still feel the same.
Mathieu Garon – G (TB): The most F’d up spelling of the simplest name of all time just pisses me off, but that’s not the reason why I would avoid MATHIEU. I would avoid him because he s-u-c-k-s. In fact unless Tampa invents a time machine and brings back 1993 Patrick Roy I’d avoid this shituation altogether…
Marek Zidlicky – D (Min): So is the proper pronunciation of his name Zid-litz-kee or is it Zid-lick-ee? I’ve heard it said both ways… Ah it’s not important. What is important is he might be awakening from his slumber after yesterday’s 3 Assists. He’s proven to be useful in the past so his 14% Yahoo ownership means he could be a cheap option if you’re shallow at D (or just need a temporary replacement for Shea Weber)…
Chris Mason – G (Wpg): Despite a 31 Save Shutout, this should really be about the Kings horrible offense so lets just go ahead and make it about that. Chris Mason?!?! You were Shoutout by Chris Mason?!?! It’s so bad in Los Angeles that Vancouver is going to start this guy on Saturday night…
