I love how NHL.com headlines always calls out random milestones like they actually mean something. Last night it was the immortal Jose Theodore. What was his milestone you ask? He was playing in his 600th career NHL game… That’s it. To put into perspective just how worthless and inconsiquential a milestone like that is: He still needs 261 more starts to surpass the legendary Gump Worsley for 10th All Time (among Goalies). The real thing that matters is what Jose did in that 600th start… Sh-shh-shhh-shutout! And it wasn’t a fluke either, Theodore has been a model of consistency for the better part of 2 months. He hasn’t given up more than 3 Goals in a game since October 17 against Tampa. But, I wanna scream and yell and tell you all to sell sell sell. The last time he was anything close to this good was exactly a decade ago (2001-2002 season w/ Montreal).. But II, it’s hard for me to go against any Florida Panther right now. That whole organization has been sprinkled with Pixie dust..
Jesse Winchester – C (Ott): You’d be hard-pressed to find a better tough-guy last name than Winchester. Unfortunately he’s just not that good at fighting. I guess the first name is just too gay to overcome…
Ilya Kovalchuk – LW/RW (NJ): The snowball is getting bigger. The Russian Sniper now has scored a point in 6 straight games (4G/2A) and is starting to resemble the guy who was in New Jersey from February on last year.
Travis Hamonic – D (NYI): I pegged this dude as a deeeeep sleeper in the preseason and so far he’s been in a deeeeeep coma (evidenced by last nights FIRST goal of the season). Plus he’s not even getting PIM’s, which would at least open up the Waiver Wire Window for those of us who stream for Penalty Minutes. Okay thats it I’ve already wasted too many keystrokes on this guy. In fact forget everything I just said.
Ray Emery – G (Chi): Don’t look now but brother man has saved 69 of the last 73 Shots directed his way (spanning 2 1/2 games). And believe me he has a great chance to earn alot more playing time going forward. Corey Crawford would have a tough time outplaying Cindy Crawford right now.
Michael Del Zotto – D (NYR): The last time we discussed MDZ I lamented the fact that despite Top Unit Power Play minutes, the production was not there. Well he must have read this blog and took it to heart cuz he’s got 5 Points in his last 6 games, 3 of them of the Power Play variety. Not a bad pickup if he’s out there and you need D help, opportunity is the first requirement to being a useful fantasy player.
James Neal – LW/RW (Pit): Happened to snap a 3 game scoreless drought while Crosby was out. As Grey would say, Cust Kayin’
Martin St. Louis – RW (TB): I gotta know when a guy gets hit in the face by a puck in practice, do you just chalk it up to chance? I call B.S. on that. Somebody had to be doing something dumb (St. Louis) or reckless (Moore)…. Am I right? And what were the coaches doing? Ahhh either way I’ve got a Razzball Hockey Exclusive: Here is the actual x-ray of his face…
Jeff Carter – C/RW (CBJ): Despite last night’s Goal there is no way around the fact that Carter’s had an awful season. He could turn it around, but I’m not going after him unless he gets dropped and I can get him for free.
Brad Winchester – LW (SJ): Hey 2 Winchester’s in 1 Post! (For you gun enthusiasts, I apologize, this is not the site you’re looking for.) Just so happens Brad Winchester is not the guy you fantasy enthusiasts are looking for either..
Jaroslav Halak – G (StL): If you can pry this guy away from a frustrated owner who is sick of watching Brian Elliott, it could pay off. The aforementioned Elliott could fall off a cliff at any moment and guess who steps in?
Ryan Kesler – C (Van): Since November 20th Ryan has looked like last year’s Kesler. 3G/8A/6PPP’s/+7/6PIM/25SOG in just 9 Games. And the scary part is I think he can keep up that pace ROS.
Matt Hackett – G (Min): I’m starting to think you or I could Goaltend for this team and they wouldn’t miss a beat. It must be because of Dany Heatley! He’s a Winner! If you own Backstrom just pick Hackett, you could get 90% of the same production.
