Looks like the flu is going around and a few guys are down with illness, tis the season!
Shea Weber returns tonight after missing three games after taking a puck to the face. Apparently he’s going to sport a visor now. Get him in there.
Evgeni Malkin did not travel with the team to Boston so he won’t be on the ice tonight. He’s day-to-day with a lower-body injury and is questionable for tomorrow night as well. If he is a part of the Pens’ morning skate, he’ll be in there.
James Wisniewski suffered an undisclosed upper-body injury last night against the Wild and is undergoing tests today to see how severe it is. It would be a shame if his season is derailed by injury.
Marian Gaborik has begun skating again but there’s still no timetable for his return from a sprained knee. He’s missed 11 games so far and it seems like he’ll remain out indefinitely. Skating is a good sign, but it’s Gabby. Is anyone surprised by this?
Shane Doan didn’t play last night due to an illness and he’s listed as day-to-day.
Alex Steen caught whatever Doan has and is questionable tonight due to illness.
Evander Kane didn’t skate this morning so he won’t be playing tonight. This will be his third consecutive game and if you’re thinking of cutting bait, I’d hold on a bit longer, but it’s starting to see like this may be a lost season for Kane.
Pavel Datsyuk returns to the ice on Tuesday against the Panthers according to Wings GM Ken Holland. This is great news for the Wings and his owners. Dats actually blames himself for Cowen’s elbow to his noggin and says he needs to be better and quicker next time.
Joffrey Lupul won’t be returning to the lineup tonight despite being a part of the morning skate. He’s questionable against the B’s, but he was a full participant in practice so unless he had a setback he should return tomorrow.
Kimmo Timonen left Saturday’s game with an upper-body injury. Time for retirement!
Darren Helm is doubtful for tonight’s game against Florida.
Pascal Dupuis is questionable for tonight’s game against the B’s with a lower-body injury.
Brooks Laich is questionable for tonight’s game with the Preds with a groin tweak.
Victor Hedman is out indefinitely with a lower-body injury, but expect it to be around a week and a day-today status after that.
Michael Frolik is questionable for tonight’s tilt with the Bolts with what Doan and Steen have.
