What’s poppin’, Razzpimples?
If you’re new to this column or have no idea what the Friday/Sunday split is, it’s a simple yet effective way to maximize your weekly output no matter the format of your league. Typically — and it’s not always the case — heavy game loads are Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, whereas Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays are lighter. Streaming players on those lighter days is almost a necessity to ensure you’re getting the most of each week, but this column focuses on just Fridays and Sundays. Reason being is that you get more bang for your waiver add buck in picking up a guy who will play those two days and will almost always be able to slot into your starting lineup without having to sacrifice someone else to the bench.
Let’s do it to it.
Note: All Rostered% numbers and position eligibilities via Fantrax. All line deployment projections via Left Wing Lock.
Four teams on the Friday/Sunday docket this week: Carolina, Detroit, Minnesota, and the New York Isles. Let’s see what we can glean, shall we?
Carolina Hurricanes (FRI vDET || SUN vMIN)
Teuvo Teravainen is owned in 59% of Fantrax leagues, so he’s admittedly not the most streamiest of streamers. But if you can nab him (I could and might), you’ll get a dual-eligible winger who has 4 PTS (2 PPP) in his last 5 GP. Turbo mos def is not the guy he used to be, but he still gets good ice time for a good teams and can have a hand in some ES or PP points. All that said, he’s not worth your while in a categories league. He’ll basically give you goose eggs if there isn’t a point.
Michael Bunting still sees big PP minutes even if his ES minutes are dropping. Worth a look in deep formats.
Jordan Martinook has goals in three straight and in four of his last six. With only 5 G on the entire year, I wouldn’t bet any money on him, but I felt inclined to at least bring him to your attention.
Detroit Red Wings (FRI @CAR || SUN vTB)
David Perron is probably still the safest offensive streaming option from Detroit, with 6 PTS in his last 7 GP. Doesn’t bring much in the way of peripherals these days, though.
Daniel Sprong is a weird case. Over TOI is anywhere from 9 to 12 minutes usually, but then he’ll get top PP deployment as well. The shots aren’t bad and there’s always points upside when you’re seeing good powerplay time.
Ben Chiarot is your dude for H+BLK from Detroit.
Minnesota Wild (FRI @FLA || SUN @CAR)
Brock Faber is must-own right now if you can swing it. At 64% rostered, I’m pushing the envelope including him in a streamer article. Minnesota doesn’t have a ton after the big dogs, though, and Faber is still slipping under many folks’ radars. He’s playing almost every single minute, every single night. That’s, like, barely even hyperbole. He’s most useful in categories leagues, but like I said last week, his sheer volume of exposure to talented forwards means he can score points too.
Ryan Hartman is always a solid stream. Used to be a solid hold, but alas. Not anymore. Still, shots are good lately and we know he can score a little.
Jake Middleton and Marcus Foligno are your banger streams. Whichever one fits your build/needs best: Middleton for H+BLK, Foligno for H and plus-minus mostly, but also with decent points upside.
New York Islanders (FRI @CHI || SUN vDAL)
Anders Lee still being slept on at only 30% rostered. Okay, that’s probably a fair rate, seeing as he’s only got 13 G and 6 A on the year. But for streaming purposes, I love him! Nice goal upside, good SOG, and even solid H.
Gotta love Alexander Romanov for H+BLK. One of the better options around. Also good for plus-minus.
Jean-Gabriel Pageau is money is the right format. Great for extra H+BLK and then especially FOW. But for a center, 96 H and 44 BLK on the year is pretty big stuff. The offensive side of his game has completely fallen off a cliff, sadly. Used to be a sneaky goals and SOG guy, but those days are long past.
From a pure hits perspective, Cal Clutterbuck is about as good as it gets. Stream him if you need those.
