For this week, we’ll share three forwards, two defensemen and a goaltender you could pick up to give your team a boost. Availability is based on ESPN leagues.
Forwards
Michael Grabner of the Islanders (LW/RW; 51%) could be a nice fit on your team. He’s getting twenty minutes of ice time per night and posted points in is first three games of the season. The Isles take on Pittsburgh and have a home-and-home with the Devils this week.
Ottawa’s Kyle Turris (C, RW; 56%) has quietly picked up four goals already this season. Perhaps this is the year he puts it all together after many years of waiting. Turris and the Senators take on Washington, Carolina and Montreal (twice) this week.
Alexander Steen of the Blues (LW; 35%) has yet to score this season but can give your team a boost. Steen has four assists this season and 15 shots on goal. The appeal of Steen is that he’s on the line with Vladimir Tarasenko. He’s playing on a third line and is still seeing time on the power play. It’s just a feeling that when Steen gets going, he’s going to go big quickly.
Defensemen
Eric Brewer (87% available) of Tampa would look good on the blue line. It’s no secret that Tampa Bay is scoring by the bucket and Brewer has already hit the net three times this season.
Sami Salo (83% available) also of Tampa has been hitting the scoresheet lately with five points in his last three games. He’s also sitting at +9 this season for those of you whose leagues include that as a stat.
Goaltender
Jason LaBarbera (99% available) of the Coyotes is a good option to pick up if you need a boost in net. Mike Smith is reportedly out with a groin injury for an unknown amount of time. LaBarbera has been performing okay in his place and should get the start tonight against Nashville. The risk is that the Phoenix defense hasn’t been performing too well but he can go out there and steal some wins.
