It’s Reid’s favorite episode when he gets to tear apart my rankings!  We start off recapping all of the latest news, notably Anaheim and Ottawa, two Conference Finalists from a year ago, already being gutted by injuries.  After that, the new rule changes are discussed and if there is any impact in fantasy.  Then Reid gets his turn bringing up his biggest qualms with my rankings and I get to defend myself.  At least he said I don’t have anything as crazy as some of ESPN’s rankings!  All of that and more in the latest edition of the Razzball Hockey Podcast brought to you by League Safe!

    i never like tapping the tank on myself (viz’ll get that one)
    but here’s some openings i need filled (that’s what she said)

    LEAGUE 1: fantrax 16 team roto dynasty with up to 7 man minor league protected lists (max 100 games season played for skaters, 50 for goalies). real life rosters starting (4 of each forward, 6 D, 1 goalie per day, 4 BN). teams are based at least somewhat around a real life team and each team needs at least 6 of that real life team’s players (injured/suspended/prospect list counts). scoring settings: shots, shot %, goals, assists, PIMs, plus/minus, hits, blocks, faceoff wins, faceoff losses, PPP, SHP, wins, GAA, SV %, shutouts. no moves limits but there are games limits. max goalie rule is you can have as many active goalies from team of your name as you want and up to 1 more from another team, if you have none from your own team max 2; and if you have 3 or more at most 1 can come from a team not named the same. (prospect/stash slots don’t count against this). Both of the fantrax leagues have infinite IR slots and anybody that can’t play for any reason can be slotted into them, to prevent hoarding nobody who’s on long term IR or suspended or inactive can be added from FA till they are active (shorter term injuries can be added from FA and anybody can be drafted). all draft times for these will be later than the 28th september and either at night or weekend day times.

    first draft of the year, often in this one i draft like one prospect (mcleod last year) and possibly one other player. non snake. 5 NA slots. need 8 PIT players and NA’s don’t count this year against that. hits/blocks/faceoffs/SHP/PPP and all the normal stuff along with it. 20 team dynasty. i’m on the tail end of the “good” luck wherein i somehow got 6th (worst showing ever in 4 years) from injuries last year, so 15th in all rounds. same as real life rosters exactly (1 G per day). max 5 IR/IR+ slots so usually you don’t have to hurt your competitive level from injuries (although i’ve been over before). no max adds, so i stream like 2-3 guys per day when injuries hit a lot of the time. damn shame i didn’t just buy into the guentzels/shearys fast enough, had streamed them (rust i traded for as throw in) max 23 keepers, first the obvious ones:
    C (4) crosby/malkin/couture/turris, probably hanzal (a BEAST in the other categories and faceoffs, he’s 2nd or 3rd line depending on where you look)/mcleod
    LW (4) fiala (RW), burakovsky (RW), fabbri (C), barbashev (C)
    RW (4) rust, kessel, hornqvist
    D (6) letang, maataa, honka, chychrun, goligoski, d.pouliot, c.murphy (holy crap i’m seeing 1ST LINE!, with his hits/blocks!). my guess is pouliot gets NA’d numerous times.
    G murray/lehner/jarry

    that list would be exactly 23 and i could draft no one. (intention is to grab a prospect or one of these foreign guys i’m seeing in your posts that’ve come to NHL (i’ll seriously have to somehow rank these overall, draft is sunday night, by that time i’ll have finished top 200 and extra after posts, and made team by team prospect posts))

    other likely cuts: weise, jagr, kunitz, borowecki, del zotto (appears to be last pairing now), claesson, maybe t.meier, gagner (seemingly 4th liner now, had such a HUGE value steal last year) and m.fleury (we have a max goalie rule, you can have as many from your team name as you want BUT if you have 3 or more ONLY 1 can come from another team, so no 3 differing team goalies. had attempted to predraft trade fleury but only got hits on lehner and i ain’t doing that).

    1. anybody over who i have? t.meier vs barbashev comes to mind. but maybe dropping some weaker PIT links like pouliot or even jarry i could hold both. guessing with how badly pouliot has done thus far i’d get him back easily, and jarry maybe.

    2. who’s my first cut to draft one guy at least, and if so a 2nd. can’t find a way i drop 3 for any value. often the other prospects are hoarded up from waivers by the smart owners.

      @Aubrey Plaza’s Pillow: and i’ll very likely be back before sunday night for a prospect/new to NHL player ranking, as that’s who i’ll be drafting with my at most 1 or 2 picks. also a lot of the time some other owners won’t keep guys with long off value (like say meier/barbashev) so some crazy values might arise there too.

      @Aubrey Plaza’s Pillow: Do you really need to keep McLeod? I know he crushes PIM and hits but I’m not sure he plays every game this year and he’s so bad everywhere else. I would probably keep Meier over him and Pouliot. Definitely would throw back Pouliot. I still think Gagner will have value as 3rd line / PP1 guy for Vancouver too.

      Definitely would drop Pouliot first, then McLeod if someone else

      • Aubrey Plaza's Pillow says:
        (link)

        @Viz: no no NJ mcleod not cody. mcleod probably my highest ranked prospect who’s still a prospect. ok, if gagner hangs on PP1 (as last year) he could be useful too (and RW). ok so pouliot definitely drop one (getting me to 22 and drafting one player), gotta think mcleod NJ isn’t one of these drops. who’s next 1 or 2 up. i would’ve thought c.murphy (even with his awesome hits/blocks) till i saw he’s first pairing on CHI with keith. a

    Just wondering your thoughts on Micheal Ferland. looks like hes starting the year on 1st line

    does he have a chance at 40 points? im looking for a guy that hits and not a lot available from top 6 forwards remaining in my pool.

    • Viz

      Viz says:
      (link)

      @jon: I don’t think so, I would guess he ends up around 30, something around 15+15. One, there’s no guarantee he sticks on the first line, but more importantly he’s not going to play on the power play. Very few players get to 40 even strength points.

    Any chance i can get your favorite top 5 unknown sleeper picks?

    I have one spot left and would like to add a lottery ticket

    League stats G A P PP+- Hits

    looking for a cheap relatively young forward.

    • Viz

      Viz says:

      @jon: How deep are we talking? I have no idea how many players are already gone when you say you have one spot left. Let me know what range of player we are talking (outside top 100, outside top 150, outside top 200 etc.) and I’ll get back to you.

      • jon says:
        (link)

        @Viz:

        well 14 team league 24 players each team, so we are talking 250+ at least prob over 300. so really deep lol. I know its hard to answer without seeing the league and whos available but i’ll tell yah its a crap shoot lol

        • Viz

          Viz says:
          (link)

          @jon: I’ll give you a bunch (not all incredibly young but nobody old) and hopefully some are available: Boeser, Buchnevich, Killorn, Duclair, Keller, Girgensons, Point, both Ritchies. Let me know if you need more.

          • jon says:
            (link)

            @Viz:

            so all of those are owned except Girgensons.

            more please? lol sorry

          • Aubrey Plaza's Pillow says:
            (link)

            @Viz: i’d be super in on this one too (albeit all those are owned in my 16 teamers). there are ones listed in the team previews (but most of them would likely be gone for 14 and ups)

          • jon says:
            (link)

            @Viz:

            Janmark?
            Weal?
            Shore?>

              @jon: I like Janmark and Weal, meant to include Janmark in the first list, he gets first preference. Not a big Shore fan.
