We are less than two weeks away from the season starting!  Today, Viz and Reid take a look at the Pacific Division.  How does the coaching change affect the Ducks?  How thin is the Kings roster?  Can the Sharks superstars play at that level again?  Is this the year for some breakouts in Arizona or are we still a year away?  How well can we howl? Can the Flames bounce back from last year’s disappointment?  How good is McJesus going to be in Year 2?  Is it worth spending more than 1 minute on the Canucks?  All of that in more in our last division preview.

It’s mentioned at the end of the podcast but we would like the commenters to leave some suggestions about what you’d like for us to talk about next week.  It can be a strategy question, specific player question or anything else that you think is worthy of discussion.  Please take a minute and leave something in the comments section below, thanks!  Anyways, here’s the podcast below:

ok, now i need a ranking, i’m up in 7 picks:
    schmaltz CHI
    gusev TB
    vesey NYR
    jost COL
    kunin MIN
    assplund BUF
    zboril BOS
    shinkaruk CGY
    caggiula EDM
was max jones left off ANA on purpose?
also, some guys who don’t count as minors guys but who have become available nick ritchie (i have too many forwards if i took him but i could drop somebody), nurse, g.reinhart (i DO need another active D man), b.ritchie, dano all available.

rank up to 8 of those, i pick in 7 and again in 8 picks. i’ll be back later when it’s closer to pick 36 too. we are currently at pick 15 (start of 2nd round)

@Aubrey Plaza’s Pillow: Do you have a preference of guys that are going to be up now or are you strictly looking towards the future? Also do you want to play it safe or do you want to take a higher upside player?

@Viz: went schmaltz and n.ritchie. ritchie seems too good to pass up. i showed up and didn’t see any message and my first guy was due in minutes an hour or so ago. hopefully you don’t have anybody higher than schmaltz above?

@Aubrey Plaza’s Pillow: vesey isn’t actually draftable apparently, this league is a big mess with comish often not doing anything for days, and he gives none of the active owners comish powers to help out. there was a rule last year that you couldn’t draft any “non signed” player, yet many did and comish forgot about it. so vesey was already drafted.

i suppose i’ll later drop soshnikov with ritchie being drafted. farm now has schmaltz added to it (it REALLY sucks that hockey’s future no longer has grades on 2016 players and it appears they’ve stopped writing those player evaluation blurbs). went schmaltz since
              1. he’s MUCH higher in THN’s may prospect top lists than anybody else (zboril was close but i have a lot of D men already, few C/Wingers)
              2. gusev you have quite high, but he didn’t even make their top 10 for TB.
              3. from your rankings kunin and asplund seemed close here, but couldn’t find grades (due to hockey’s future folding apparently), and kunin seems less useful in hits leagues than asplund or schmaltz.

with my pick at 36 in a while i can either go best upside player, highest ranked player (probably zboril if he’s still around), or active D man (nurse or g.reinhart). how you rank the remaining guys
and why so low on max jones (not even in ANA’s top 5)

@Aubrey Plaza’s Pillow: the real problem with no longer having those hockey’s future grades is comparing guys from 2016 draft to previous year guys. unlike baseball/football there often just aren’t top 100 or whatever lists out yet (at least not ones that merge 2016 guys with previous year prospects)

@Aubrey Plaza’s Pillow: what about this trade idea i just got
my quick + next year 2nd rounder
                  for
lundqvist + mcdonaugh + worthless pick

i’m thinking lundqvist’s age makes this a no.

@Aubrey Plaza’s Pillow: went gusev in the 3rd round (not only high on your lists, but he’s an 8 D (risky but super talented) at hockey’s future). so my farm is back to 10 guys, and i got ritchie for active roster, i’m thinking i’ll be able to waiver nurse anyway. i’ll get back soon after draft is over to see what if any minor guys could be dropped to improve.

I like the Gusev pick and definitely think you picked right throughout the draft, Schmaltz was a good choice. I think that trade is really close and if you don’t want Lundqvist at his age I understand. I’m simply lower on Quick than almost anybody in real life and also for fantasy purposes plus I love McDonagh going forward.
