Reid and I are together once again bringing everyone the latest fantasy hockey news.  We run down the latest injuries, mostly to blueliners, before we also discuss a handful of players who returned over the weekend.  After that, we touch on the red hot Capitals, the third line in Carolina exploding in back to back games, John Tavares looking like his usual self and an emerging goalie in St. Louis.  After that, we each rank nine players who are available in over 50% of leagues that I consider must-own.  We know it’s difficult to decide who to grab with your last roster spot or two so that’s what we’re here for.  After that, we finish things up with a Tuesday preview and The Three Point Challenge.  As always, please leave your picks in the comments section.  All of that and more in the latest edition of the Razzball Hockey Podcast brought to you by SeatGeek and FanPicks!

Thanks for the podcast. I’m proud that those 9 must own players are all taken in my 14 team league and glad that I have Kane and Tkachuk already.

Just read that the Jets recalled Ondrej Pavelec. What do we do with Hellebuyck? I also own Bob and Tuukka. Should I hold on longer? Or drop him for Saros? Also availabe- Hutton, Grubauer, Darling, Nilsson

@distant_station: no problem, glad you listened! Nice, always satisfying being in a league with everyone being active, especially when you win. Yes they did and at this point, it’s close in 14’ers. Smaller leagues id just cut bait but here it’s closer. My first thought is grab Hutton and see if he runs with the job. The other guys aren’t going to get the volume, especially grubauer. His starts will be the best though so that’s a question you need to answer, do you want the most starts of the best regardless of number?

I’m not too sure what to do with my goalie situation this evening. I have Jake Allen(not playing), Lehner, and Gibson. Gibson has been fantastic so I think I have to start him. Kucherov, Drouin, Johnson, and Hedman(Hedman is sick though) so I hate it when my guys play against my goalies. As for Lehner, he’s also been good , but the second night of a back to back and the leafs can score for sure. I also have JVR and I picked up Bozak for this game, didn’t catch that they were playing buffalo when I did that. So should I bench lehner and pick up hutton? I feel like that might be a better Matchup. I would be dropping bozak. I hate dropping guys day of, but Crosby and Malkin did some massive damage for me yesterday so I’m off to a great start offensively.

@Quick Sycamore: I don’t know how to edit posts, but I meant to say that I have Kucherov etc on my team.

@Quick Sycamore: Sorry I didn’t see this before the game started, from between 6-7 is a bad time for me on vacation right now. Hopefully you went with Hutton :/

@Viz: Hey Man no worries! Thanks for even responding on vacation, that’s dedication right there. Anyway I did go Hutton, but it’s not going well lol.

@Viz: unfortunately the panthers sucked down the road -.- i wanted to pick benn first but i was to late the stars game already started.
You were pretty close too with benn but you missed the coinflip 😀

I would love to hear you talking about dynasties and dynasty values. Maybe some guys you can buy low right now and explode next year or in 2 years. 🙂 but thats just me only playint dynasty fantasy leagues 😀

@Saints: Tough break that he didn’t get the third point. Sounds good, we can definitely do that. Since we aren’t having a second podcast this week since I’m on vacation, next Tuesday’s will have a lot of news to cover but we can probably work something into next Thursday’s or the Tuesday after since there won’t be much to talk about over the All-Star break.

            @Viz:
Time isnt a big factor here since i can target those guys all the time. But i think its interesting to look a little bit ahead and speculate whats coming 🙂

Thanks for the work you put in here I’m loving it 🙂

16 team league dynasty, 7 minor slots (skaters can be held there till 100 season NHL games, goalies 50). on active roster i’ve left bishop in IR slot as i didn’t want to drop f.andersen till i saw bishop doing well. looks like that’s happened in 2 straight starts and he got his head right while injured. esp impressive since hedman was out yesterday.

    minors:
schmaltz C CHI, barbashev C/LW STL, juolevi D VAN, c.white OTT, eriksson-ek C MIN, crouse LW FLA, kamenev LW (is playing center now in minors i read) NAS. crouse looking like a poor man’s nick ritchie (or nick ritchie called up a full year too early maybe). hits/blocks league. have bishop/gibson as goalies. should i drop crouse or kamenev for c.hart (seemingly highest ranked prospect goalie not owned). kamenev does appear to get penalties too, so not shy away type euro, so that’s good.
full roster if this helps (team based around STL and has to have at least 6 of those, could include barbashev). faceoffs/PPP/SHP also added
C (exactly real life sized active rosters) stastny/draisaitl (got lucky grabbing him 15th overall year he came out)/o’reilly/pavelski
    LW fabbri/schwartz/steen/ritchie
    RW rantanen/backes/oshie/eaves/stempniak
    D doughty/pietro/shattenkirk/stone/provorov/gudas/streamer spot
    G gibson/f.andersen
    IR/IR+ bishop/hanzal/hamonic/nurse

@Aubrey Plaza’s Pillow: Man, you got a really nice team for a 16 man dynasty, well done. You might have to find another Blue for your active roster in the offseason if they lose Shattenkirk and don’t call up Barbashev right away. I was never a big Crouse guy but should be a guy who piles up hits once he gets the minutes. That said, hits are a relatively easy thing to get and I’m not buying into his offensive upside yet. Kamenev is playing center and a lot of the penalties are dumb ones. He’s playing with an edge right now that he sometimes crosses. That said, he’s made a nice progression at 20 years old in the AHL this season so I’d be holding him. If you want a goaltending prospect, I’d be fine with dropping him for Hart.
