Once you get outside of the top 200 overall, you’re looking at the last 2-3 picks in a standard 12 man league.  There are a few different ways you can go about making your last few picks.  You can shoot for upside, get a couple safe players if you already have plenty of upside, fill out your last couple defensemen, grab a goalie out of desperation.  I’m going to list a bunch of players in different categories that fall outside of my top 200 that you can target depending on what you’re looking for.  I’m not going to go into detail on these guys but I will put them in my order of preference.  Here is my list:

I have a shorter version of the upside list that I’m going to use in a keeper league for potential breakout players. The problem is that I can’t just load up on a bunch of them since most or all will likely not produce. Do you have a preference from these guys? Currently leaning Jost.

    Fabbri, Bennett, Jost, Burakovsky, Puljujarvi

@Fungazi Are you looking for long term or solely this year? If it’s this year, it’s Fabbri or Jost. Long term, I would put Burakovsky last year and you could really justify the other four in any order although I would still lean Fabbri.

      • Fungazi says:
        (link)

@Viz: This year. If the player isn’t a top 50 type, he’s not worth keeping because we only keep 4. Probably even closer to top 35.

        • Viz

          Viz says:

@Fungazi: Oh okay. Then I would rank them Fabbri, Jost, Burakovsky, Bennett, Puljujarvi and think the first two are close.

I have Price and Vasi—- i want a 3rd tendy do i handcuff Vasi with BUdaj who i hate lol or take Niemi or Miller?

    • Viz

      Viz says:
      (link)

@jon: Man, those options are all pretty ugly. Can I say none of them? All of them are clear backups, barring injury it would a surprise if any of them got 25 starts.

      • jon says:
        (link)

        @Viz:

        Pitts has 19 b2b games
        ducks have 11-
        not sure on tampa

Don’t think Miller plays 35 games? Gibson is a little bandaid boy

        • Viz

          Viz says:
          (link)

@jon: I would set the betting line at 15 starts for Niemi, 20 for Budaj and 25 for Miller; I would take the under on Miller. 35 games is extremely ambitious, that’s only 47 starts for Gibson. I’d expect Gibson to start 60-65.

    VIZ:
My league categories for skaters has added “hits” this year.
What players in your top-200 are most affected by this category ?
Are there any guys outside your 200 that now move into the top 200 ?

    • Viz

      Viz says:
      (link)

@teddybb: Ovechkin probably moves to #1 overall, the big hit guys like Simmonds and Big Buff move up a bunch too and guys like P. Kane drop. Honestly, there are too many players for me to list that get affected or move around my Top 200. I would look at hits totals for players from last season and move up everyone who gets 100+ hits and drop everyone who is 50 and below with the movement depending on how drastic the number is. Honestly, I would start your draft close to normal and see if you need hits as the draft goes along. If you’re short, I would start to avoid taking low hit guys.

Sounds like a plan. I’m feeling good with my keepers as Marchand and Wheeler.
I’ll be following your list (not ESPN or yahoo) when I draft next week.
        Appreciate the advice !
