Nathan McKinnon mixes it up for the Avs against the Ducks. Picture from Denver Post

That didn’t take long. Patrick Roy had his first outburst as head coach of the Colorado Avalanche in his first game behind the bench. He got into a shouting match with Anaheim head coach Bruce Boudreau at the end of the Avs 6-1 win over the Ducks.

See the fracas here. Get ready for 81 more games. What’s the over/under on his outbursts?

Colorado 6, Anaheim 1 Box Goals: COL Ryan O’Reilly (1), Jamie McGinn (1,2), Steve Downie PPG (1), John Mitchell (1), Matt Duchene PPG (1); ANA Jakub Silfverberg (1) Goaltenders: COL Seymon Varlamov 35-36 W; ANA Victor Fasth 23-29 L

Analysis: Colorado went up 6-0 before Silfverberg snuck one home in the final 10 seconds to break the shutout bid. Nathan McKinnon had a pair of assists in his NHL debut and looked pretty comfortable doing it. Varlamov also had a solid night in goal with seeing a good workload. Again, it’s just one game. Alex Tanguay quietly had three assists for the Avs.

Detroit 2, Buffalo 1 Box Goals: DET Mikael Samuelsson (1), Pavel Datsyuk (1); BUF Zemgus Girgensons (1) Goaltenders: Ryan Miller 32-34 L; Jimmy Howard 19-20 W

Analysis: Dastyuk looks to be in mid-season form. Miller can’t be faulted on either goal that Detroit scored in this game. Howard’s turnover led to the lone Buffalo goal. Howard should be solid all season.

Toronto 3, Philadelphia 1 Box Goals: TOR Phil Kessel (1), Tyler Boland (1,2) 2nd was a PPG; PHI Brayden Schenn (1) PP Goaltenders: Johnathan Bernier 31-32 W; Steve Mason 22-25 L

Analysis: Boland picked up a pair and Joffrey Lupul had the assists on both of them. Vincent Lecavalier had a slick move to get the assist on the Schenn goal.
