Mason Raymond scored twice and Cory Schneider turned aside 30 shots as Vancouver blanked Anaheim 5-0 last night. The Canucks got revenge on the Ducks for a 7-3 drubbing to open the season. Let’s take a look at the rest of the night on ice.
Boston knocked off the Islanders 4-2 Dougie Hamilton had a pair of assists for Boston in the win. Keith Aucoin scored both Islander goals in the loss. Zdeno Chara picked up his first goal of the season.
Jay Harrison had a goal and an assist to power Carolina to a 3-1 win over Buffalo. The game was a goaltending duel between Ryan Miller (39 saves) and Dan Ellis (40 saves) as each saw 41 shots but Ellis got the better of Miller.
Ilya Kovalchuk’s goal with 21 seconds left in overtime gave New Jersey a 3-2 win over Washington. The Capitals are off to an 0-3-1 start.
Detroit and Minnesota are both 2-2 after the Red Wings knocked off the Wild 5-3. Todd Bertuzzi picked up his first two goals of the season while Zach Parise tallied twice in the loss. Pavel Datsyuk (G, 2A) and Valeri Filppula (3A) each had three-point nights for Detroit.
Tampa Bay’s offensive explosion continues as the Lightning knocked off Ottawa 6-4. Steven Stamkos had a goal and two assists in the win while Cory Conacher had a couple helpers. Ryan Malone scored twice in the third period to erase a one-goal deficit. The Lightning lead the NHL with 19 goals in their first four games.
Winnipeg knocked off Pittsburgh 4-2 despite Sidney Crosby’s two goals. Evander Kane, Andrew Ladd and Dustin Byfuglien each had a goal and an assist as the Jets put the Win in Winnipeg.
